I. This is the plane into an exchange we've Barry Armstrong. Sure streets stay on top of breaking business news and learn how to manage your money to help you towards a more secure future. And now broadcasting live from the insurer mentioned John John studios speeds up financial exchange with your host. Barry armed. Strong. Hi everybody welcome to the financial exchange truck is not a joining me today and chuck this isn't days. Of extremists. On one hand we opened the show with a conversation regarding Donald Trump. In on the other hand and about ten minutes for an be joined by Laura mettler to discuss the price tag of Bernie Sanders proposals. Busy day busy day and teen tree yards and you're kind of stuck in the middle here on. Trillion dollars eighteen trillion dollars we'll talk to Laura about that it's going to be a fascinating interview but we open up Donald Trump. Clothes and a deal yesterday he sold miss universe two IMG which is a big talent isn't. Yeah and now we don't know the details yet as to by the sale price that he got on a don't know finally jump much I'm wondering if you had a pretty much liquidated just because the yacht company that it carry this for the last several years NBC. Primitive look we're not gonna do business with the anymore so I don't know if you was gonna be able to find a buyer for this or he might have ended up getting pennies on the dollar when it's all said and done we don't know we. He could've had a written write a check to get out of it. If you can definitely could have yeah thank you wasn't out a profitable venture. Now it in this was something it was like it was getting great ratings to begin with this wasn't something that was up. Drawing in a ton of revenue for mr. trump so when you look at this I wouldn't be surprised if he made very little if any money on this when he finally had cell. Here on his campaign. Disclosure he had listed as an asset worth somewhere between five and 25 million dollars. I'm guessing that he probably got towards a low end of that and I'm guessing I would imagine three to five million sounds about right at this point. Donald Trump attracts a lot of attention some of it warranted of their parts of it not warranted this part I think is perhaps. Unwarranted he's being attacked by the New York State attorney general. And the reason I think you may be unwarranted. The New York State attorney general is basically the suing Donald Trump. For trump university he's saying that it was really not need it was in the university to start off right. Well and obviously it was in the university and I don't think that we call that person. A lot of things that people call universities and I guarantee you a fight Google something like Boston cooking university here New Haven cooking university. Find something that comes up there but it's not necessarily an accredited schools so what I call every I tell everybody on their local area which in fact I don't know if the knew about it I've always been confused about that actually I had this this strange feeling but. When you look at this and again you say that some of these attacks are unwarranted this what I think is is when I agree at least get he's got two students. There are suing him I mean how many thousands went to the university and did so well but he's got to that are silly. And beyond that look if you're in business for any length of time there's someone who isn't happy with it. Regardless of how well you run your business regardless of how much effort you put into it there's someone who for whatever reason whether real or perceived. Feels that they were slighted by you and has an ax to grind and so when you look at what these students are doing and what the New York State attorney general is doing a liberal by the way I am I have serious questions as to life you know whether or not this is something. That's a legitimate gripe or just a couple students who are little bent out of shape because something didn't go that way. May you mean you had that thing about all the kids go to college age the goat to. And you caught and they feel like they didn't get a good value for their 100000 dollars adjustment under education. You know what. I suppose they could suit too but they beat ten to laughter at the for profits and Schneider man I think this is largely political vendetta possesses the I would imagine. You know days into his credit. Trump countersuit Schneider men now back at the back he's got thrown out of court. But. In Donald Trump not one to back down he's. Yes and and so you look at this I think in the broad scheme of things what we're talking about what Donald Trump here. This is something I kind of pushed it aside and say look there's there's other more important stuff that you can actually criticize them for him personally like any student wanted to go to trump university via. Think. With what he's waking witness when maybe you weren't thinking. On whoever says that 21%. But one of our listeners a guy named Joseph he sensed the articles he said this to me yesterday after we got off the air it can share with you. But Hoover says that 21%. Of Boston taxi drivers have signed up to drive with the service. And I'll tell you whenever I jump in new Burkhardt I don't use the services much as you do track but anytime I do I asked the guys actually. So were you a taxi driver prior. It into driving for who worked at some of them Tellme. All of them said yes they used to drive a taxi. Some of them tell me that he still drives a taxi but they also drive for Hoover which I think is pretty curious. And in what this is shown is that a lot of current taxi drivers actually are driving for Hoover so they're taking you know they're getting it comes from the double dip and well it's it was with taxis the way they are today it might not be double dipping its like one and a half dipping. But you look at this point 1% of Boston cabbies are driving with Hoover right now and that's when you look at the numbers here is that 6400. Licensed cab drivers in Boston so when you do the match at about thirteen hundred drivers that are driving for both calves and do. Explain the Bertie thing. In terms of the service because I was unclear to me as I read it now I've used the servicemen whose use the black car. So who were also has if you ever download the Hoover rapper if you go to that I have a website and there's an option on there for tax. OK it's over taxi over T is it cheaper than a black car parts cheaper than a black art but it's generally more expensive than the based Wilbur excerpts now okay. And so when you look at why would somebody use is over remember what you may be able to fund let's say that who were ex is going through search pricing works two times its normal cost the Hoover taxi is not. That's a case where all taxi may actually end up being cheaper. And you wind up writing in a regular Boston cab just like you would otherwise it that's actually pretty good because that way you don't get stung. When Robert jacks up its price due to heavy traffic or exact that would be an example the Saturday night 2 AM. That something like batter if you know Friday night at 9 PM as people are going out you may find that everyone's trying to take B Rex Nevis and look. No one's taking the tax side here is availability and I'll get out cheaper maybe that's the direction at UN to go right so. It's you know it is a way there's not a whole and of people. Who are using Hoover tee again a lot of these not drivers correct. But it is an option that's out there so it does give you the opportunity to lie essentially used both platforms if you are attacks now. What do just. Leave in a little bit to the story that we're going to be covering next with Laura Mac Lawrence with the Wall Street Journal. And and I'll read the the first paragraph to you senator Bernie Sanders who's liberals call to action has propelled his long shot. Presidential campaign. Is proposing. An array of new programs that would amount to largest peacetime expansion. Of government in modern American history. Which would should alarm you about mr. Sanders and his proposals. Was. Before we knew about these proposals he'd already suggested a 90%. Income tax that's right if you're high partner your doctor your lawyer you're successful you're businessman make a lot of money. He wants 90%. Of your income in the form of taxation. So given this new proposal what I've been trying to figure out chuck and I had my account I I've already exploded three calculators trying to figure out. Get up burning out left and right. Right now it's. It's tough it's book I mean we we do the math and we look at it. Eighteen trillion you're talking about essentially doubling the size of the federal deficit just with these programs not write any additional spending you know talking about the existing program that these are additional programs. And when it does I think. Is it makes us look a lot like Europe does that don't we become France overnight to Bernie Sanders is our next president well it it makes you look a lot like that the problem is that type of government can work on a very small scale if you look at Sweden for example which the country seven million people so. For them it's it's much more manageable there's much less waste and easy enough to do. One with 320. Million people commit and you work this too much abuse there's too much room especially with the way that we're set up with different states there's too much room for. You know pork projects getting in there. And just doesn't work on that scale so pretty much once you get above. That size six million people are so it did that really work. Well up next we'll be talking about your crazy uncle whose names Bernie Sanders Laura Mac or from the Wall Street Journal joins us. You are listening to the financial exchange from the insurer match. Work family house they have near Yale it's the three Stanley that you had your holy cross you know the properties that are over near Boston College rental properties sure how does one only those and still protect themselves the biggest problem with rental property as the risks of a lawsuit to slip and all the parties someone got hurt notre if you own your own name folk then they're gonna who use the property owner I directly and if they -- you directly. And they can go after every. You owning your own game your other vacation home and home ever owned your commercial properties personally owned them in an LLC that the key I would set it up and some kind of a limited liability company throw in there and in unit you're liable you're gonna lose is that one property. Yes let's play out to straighten it that a company like that in the lawsuit happened and they're gonna sue the company and not you personally not as otherwise you can lose your your savings account you can lose your home he could lose your retirement accounts this way since they're suing the company that can only get what's in I company I've got it and not any of your personal aspects are always the way to go make sure you have the property protected and even and make sure you still have an umbrella coverage still very important to have umbrella insurance to provide an offset the creditor protection. Follow along and interact with the financially and JoAnne bush. Give up good dot com slash financial exchange this is the financial exchange or radio network. We're back and we're joined by Laura MacBook. From the Wall Street Journal very Armstrong and chuck is not a breaking down the proposals. Of are crazy uncle uncle Bernie Sanders I do lore. Can running and go ahead. That so help us understand he has an agenda. In its gonna cost about fifteen trillion dollars for. Government run health care programs that cover every American they split where do we start visit overall it's eighteen trillion dollars extra expenditures right. Right until we didn't think I'd add up exactly what Eliot what you would propose because he's proposing a lot of government program that he says that these are very much needed to address problems in the country that. So that started adding up well liked what he is proposing and itself but actually put together the first few things that he had such as some. Every tuition at public schools and infrastructure program that's surge thing and we ended up got to a number of three trillion the deadly added time and the one he is not come out yet with the DTL get but he promised this to you which is that they expected big enchilada which has a government run single pair health care plan. What that would do it essentially transfer. Spending Ned now being done by employers would now be government spending so that's a big increase it again mountain. The document that's out there of the leading proposal that this fifteen million dollars for the campaign said that there was a fair number cute. So when you add the three trillion and the fifteen trillion together you end up like eighteen trillion dollars. You're trying to figure out Laura is. He's already proposed a 90% income tax rates and housing and pay for this Iranian Izzy got a 150. Think about how pivotal differently to pay for an idea Jenna typically they thought he haven't come out with a specifically what his. Tax rates would be but. We if he doesn't get that includes the 90% tax rates and that provides money to pay particular thing that money hasn't been party committed to something else so. Other tax increases that he's talking about getting increasing at the capital gains tax increase in this state tax for the upper income. Thought that provides money for these programs so committed credit Michael out of politicians who don't really tell other gonna pay for things he. Willing to raise taxes to pay for his proposal. This critical for the health care plan that typically delayed these things are funded as. Throughout payroll tax that both employers and employees pay. Base diner and come. And sort of how we pay for Social Security. Now of course keep in mind that this city this is in the attacks but it is replacing an existing spending right now players spent a lot of money on health care they wouldn't have to do that anymore. That is one of the likely around paid force for the health care plan. Let's talk about government spending could you point out in your article that for many years government spending has equal to about 20%. Of our gross domestic product. If he's successful he wins the election what percentage of government spending will be represented in the GDP that would really goes from torn right. If we win the election and if he succeeds in getting all of that their content protection which is another big big advocate that he does it act. It would move the government spending as a mechanic GDP to 30% which has been very big we're talking about. The biggest jobs in modern American history with the exception of the world like to military build up till we're talking about a major expansion of government how much. Of the economy government is responsible for. When it what does he including in terms of estate taxes personal income taxes and I understand even want to financial transaction tax. He doesn't want financial transaction tax that would be attacked at every trade that it made he says that attack on the advancement. Houses that make a trade summit in distant disagreement in the that our world about how much that would be passed on to the individual trader but. Implement what if you don't like this we do is it would not just raise money but it would actually discourage either sort of com quick hit trade that meant to just sort of manipulate the market and waved. With too broad debate the stock market more stable so that. TV is that is as good policy and possible money raiser. He does have increases so finally he's proposed in terms of the estate taxes in terms of the in terms of the capital gains taxes potentially increasing those rates for the upper income attacking about those earning over 250000 dollars the car. Right right. Had he taken a look at the comments section after your article. It went dead and I I think it demands that a little but not my problem that violence is actually pretty ridiculously popular analyst at the top. I haven't read most of. If it's not exactly the cup of tea for the typical Wall Street Journal article as. I mean they're certainly have to I think we have we have a lot of readers and I'll stay at the front Cherokee. I hope that people will look at this and say is that you know the people who support him up should be. But it could be like completely find that definitely you know this is what we needed to do what's necessary and and the people who don't think it is the right direction obviously will be somewhat disturbed by the title had a proposal. How he has this the point of the story isn't it. Patrick judgment whether this is a good idea bad idea that it is very much in the eye of the beholder but it's this fake. Okay we're talking about basic recipe Ito honest about what it would cost what it laid out what the total could be. Like posted it on my FaceBook page very early this morning Laura. And I think it got something like hundreds of comments but also. Multiple shares on the suspect and take my case that they'd. Are you an office just told me that there had been a bit like more than 22000 shares not to expect this morning so must be hitting in quite some somehow. Mastery is Laura. That need it but I'm not at all thank you very much I don't. She's a good report she's she's very good and dot. Look when when you look at this this is again Bernie Sanders when we talk about who's running today yeah he's the furthest left that out there. But yet when it isn't ironic is he's doing very well in both New Hampshire and Iowa was looking at some polling data this morning I think that speaks more to the weakness that Hillary Clinton has a candidate than the strip that Bernie Sanders does simply because I think if you had someone. That the Democrats were running that. Was capable bought more of a centrist. I think that they would likely I'll be taking those votes from Hillary instead. Of Bernie Sanders now a lot of questions about her campaign from Kenya. Well in and out the one thing that I can at least give Bernie credit for he's very up front is just looking here and I'm proposing he's not trying to hide it he's not shying away from it he says look. Here's the proposing at least he's putting everything out there and scares the heck enemy. Really yeah you think you actually has a chance yeah now I do I I I'll I don't know I think if he if he if it's him. Running and lord knows who's going to be running against rate. I don't think Bernie Sanders actually has a chance now I think that hope you're right I think that if if I think if Hillary Clinton continues to be as weak as she has been I think nobody is likely coming in to scoop that up and I think that he specially mean I don't know if you watched his interview from the colder. Show last week but. Very strong on that Joseph Biden Owens yeah there was on it was Tucker was the first or second night of the it was the second second idea I mean you talked a lot of dollars on passing tootsie that would be the thing I just don't know how I can do it after losing a child he 72 years old. You lose it in us open minded minority lost another. A daughter and a white power and also I know he's he's been doing this for a while. It was a very mentally tough. Person he he he he must mean he asked to be passed the two I I just can't imagine that. But the worse than death death you'll get it most of most of his family is gone at this point now. Todd we're talking about the different ways that you can own rules state and one of the things that comes up is and I've seen this before people own their real estate in what's called the nominee realty trust. Obvious question is. Is that trust going to protect the home from real estate. And just as importantly will avoid probate when you die would your home in a nominee realty trust. Well it can't protect a home from a nursing home most likely actually I can tell you it won't talk in my time you go to your real estate lawyer residential real estate lawyer and unfortunately put people in these why do they do. I don't know and it's not their fault they're just not in that business and so I think that they should always make sure you go to when estate planning attorney to get your trust work done OK and so in this case. One is not gonna protect it from the nursing home and so it may not even avoid probate folks if you have a nominee realty trust. Go look at the schedule beneficiaries and all that you'll find that it might sell your name yet but they're gonna find you know mom and dad on their husband wife I see that answer so who wouldn't accomplish try to need to sleep in their own and we accomplished nothing that's exactly right it went right. Through the nominee realty trust right at them and and it's not even avoiding probate. And scary enough folks if you happen to pull that realty trust out and see that kid named as the beneficiaries. Then you gave it to them without even knowing it and you don't want that to happen make sure you figure out the right weight on your realistic. Big winner on that was drawn from Marion taking home what a bar mugs congratulations to Ron. Right Carl Icahn who by the way use close friends with Donald Trump and been giving him counsel through Donald Trump's campaign. Just popped his debt he just increased he is investment. In should new year which is a natural gas exporter. They and he took a big positions big risk yet and. Engineer for those of you who aren't familiar with them what they do they're involved really in liquefied natural gas LNG. As we as it's as it's known in the industry. And this is not the natural gas that you're typically dealing with when you're talking about your home or anything like that that gas is in its typical form that you encountered and LNG if you're not familiar with its super cooled a chipped in those giant ships that come in the Boston Harbor every now and then they come in under four and five helicopter helicopter escort just because. It's it's incredibly dangerous process. Just because there's so much energy. Packed in his fuel but well you would make route 120 waterfront property. A weasel easily maybe you look at the blast pattern it's massive you're talking 1012 miles in any direction. On so when you look at this this the company engineers that is largely involved in this industry and has really been profitable. It's it has not been a profitable industry. To this point now there are a number of LNG terminals that are going to be coming on the line in the US as well as internationally. Over the next couple years and there is the thought that if you continue to see the levels of fracking and so forth that we've seen over the last ten. That this could become profitable industry over that time here so. When you looked at what Carl Icahn is doing he's saying look I think this company is undervalued because there's huge upside here. And he's willing to essentially go in when a lot of other investors are running out of particular. Another notable. Activist investor change and Jen house who is. Announced that he is short also a bright guy very Smart guys we've got two very Smart guys and ops guys guys here victory I mean this is it shaping up to be a pretty interesting battle. Generally Carl Icahn. Comes out ahead on these that mean he is your classic corporate raider comes in cleans house makes profits for the company makes profits for shareholders and gets out. It kind of makes out like bandits so it's going to be very interesting over the next couple years to see exactly where this goes but certainly when someone like Karl like he's making a move like this it does piqued your interest a little bit park your antenna just to say. Is that something should be looking. A lot of people follow him. Right it just like Warren Buffett right to find out what Warren Buffett's buying the nearby warrants talks a lot of people do the same trade. We Cheniere and you know the the thing that occurs to me is Karl's very patient guy you know he took a big position member when he took a big position in Netflix yep. He held that for. Three or four years before he sold and he made it killing all he crushed him. Eight absolute killing on it so I think when you look at this just as icons going in doesn't mean this is going to all of a sudden snap back in turn around tomorrow. This is something that again he's looking. Three to four years out he's not the Warren Buffett of investing where Buffett's trying to buy companies for the next twenty years but he's definitely more than just a day trader looking to make a quick buck tomorrow. Hey you know we're talking about Carl Icahn and you can follow guys like Carl Icahn and try to decide when to buying and investment. When to sell an investment. As a whole there for different ball of wax easy I've always found it easy to figure out when to buy something chuck it's finding out when the seller determining. Went to sell it is a whole different game. And and I think. Probably the harder thing to do well thanks Allen about it's tougher for a couple of reasons the first being you need to figure out when it's actually reach the price you wanna sell out in the second is also deal with the tax consequences making sure you're not hurting yourself from that perspective that's right. You know one of the things you can do to avoid taxes is if it's a commercial piece of real state that you're so he can do at 1031 exchange. And next month we're gonna make available information regarding 1031 exchanges that today. We're making available a guide. And it talks about win should use cell and investment. Has it hit its fair value has it exceeded its fair value estimate would of the tax ramifications. Of selling that stock that bond that piece of real state. You can call that tool free phone number right now in no pop this guide in the mail to you it's all about when to sell an investment. 855981. 8514. Sounds like apple and Tesla are getting into a bidding war over talent. And it's not just a small bidding war were talking about massive sums of money. That are being kicked out a Tesla in so tired of the union in engineer yet tests or in soccer Tesla insider while that is difficult to say. Tesla insider. Back at the beginning of the year said that a lot of engineers were being offers much is at 250000. Dollars signing bonus and 60%. Salary bombs. To go over to apple Apple's supposedly. Has as many as a thousand employees working on what they are calling project titan which is supposedly the code name for the apple car. And they are keep it secret when you've got a thousand employees well into based on what we've seen from Linkedin which is. Always a 100% reliable but just from the data we have there they've already poached at least eighty apple eighty employees from Tesla so engineers servers in the mix bag if it's a mixed bag it's a number of engineers. But not all of them are an engineer and summer and marketing and other product development but. It is a clear sign. That there's something going on here and it's not just apple trying to put their basic technology into other people's cars in this up if you have a thousand people working on this project there's something else that's going on. Let me ask you would be dias. Question TV. They're sitting on apple sitting on 10050. But billion dollars in a 160 billion ethic in the past and why wouldn't pages by a General Motors or by tests like there is a rumors circulate after you've seen that that there's a rumor circulating. That apple might just by tussle combined company bullets look at both of those for example has a small thirty billion. Well tussle is small but it's still can be overpriced. OK so. If it's cheaper feed to develop let's say that it cost again and you'll probably pay a premium on Tesla shares in order by its alleged that you have to pay. Forty to 45 billion in order to twenty to 30% premium you pay forty to 45 billion for Tesla do you think you can develop your own car and own platform for less than that. I don't know the answer but. Apple us Smart people in their finance department that got by G campers sixty why would you want that but they knew had the distributor ships are you why why you want that. But just to have the infrastructure services. Darnell now to get into the mass production of cart got to be of the Serbs you don't that's for the money now you don't want you don't want either of those companies why would you want that legacy business that has nothing to do with you core business core. If you look at auto makers it's low margin business. It is incredibly volatile US cardinals. Well. Dealers make dealers make a good chunk of money but they kill what they think killings at times but it that is service is bad times they don't allow the reality based. Remember dealer auto dealer makes 90% of its profits on the side of the yen on the service. But still if you wanna get it if you look at what they have to do and and again I think our view of dealers get skewed by a lot of the major ones we are talking about. You know your box of the world do grade year herb chambers of the world do great but you're smaller dealers that aren't in these major markets that they ticket hit when you have the economy struggling simply because they don't have the volume. A service coming in that these places dues opener. I think so you don't think there's any chance that apple buys an auto company. No even Tesla no. But I think again if they were gonna buy Tesla they would have done it along time ago now it would take about how much cheaper would have been to do it. Five years ago so I don't think there's a chance apple buys them I think there's zero chance that they go out and by anyone like it GM or Ford just because. You don't want that business you don't want it now. It's it's not the type of business that apple typically gets into when you look what apple does they want high margins exclusive bot networks that's not what you're getting into when you buy a team owner GM or Ford that's mass market just some tribal margin or are you surprising and into the car business. Somewhat but I've been surprised by apple before way at times and I thought they were going the wrong direction and they've they've proved me wrong quite a bit so at this point I'd generally. Trust what apple is doing is because that was the last major misstep that. Maybe watch. I don't even know if the watched him step at this point. It's too early to tell you Venus and wait until after Christmas we actually have an apple guy coming on later yet so that the last real missteps they have fifteen years ago at this point they they cut bait pretty quick if something goes were you know they enacted in this products to market even. You know look at what we've talked about with for apple TV not just the the best upset that the full. Display and everything that's never come to market probably because they realized look it's not profit. Even lower from Dario and low I'm sorry Jean Armstrong Davis is the financial exchange radio network it. Well we talked about go pro yesterday and it was a little bit bearish in terms of our conversation today we've got Dylan Lewis from the Motley Fool with a us. You'll like go pro don't. I do I think a lot of folks here at school like it I don't own it but you know what people here pretty bullish on it I think. Market kind of misunderstood it recently along with what main suppliers amber oh I don't know the company has figured we talked about that. Don't when he sent the market has misunderstood what exactly do you mean when you lie describe it like that. Yes so you look at both the company. And seem kind of moved together just some background here amber though is that semiconductor company. I mean they're developer like low power HD camera. Compression process and product so just kind of like the internal parts that don't you making an agency that they used to Oprah. But they released earnings on the leaders are earning even. Recently but I beat reporter really great quarter but they're darned simple that we moving forward. And with it in the conference call was that they recognize a lot of revenue that historically is coming Q3 and QQ. And that is because a lot of products are accurate fashion or oppose most recent launch. Came out and he too went carpet in the encore. And so because of this revised guidance on the road. A lot of people thought that that was kind of bearish indicator of the wearable market. So what when you look at this let's talk more specifically just about go pro now. I know they've been trying to in addition to simply happening. The camera technology they've been trying to build this go pro brand. Beyond that can you give us any insight as to how that process is working out work. Yeah I think we're up pretty well you know I mean they've major partnership with. You know what league. Packed cars and shops. I think when the big opportunity to compete on the road is that by men now in the summer with cocoa like you think you know which is basically a video portal. Allows advertisers marketers to go and and by footage from corporate users and I think is one of those great program that kind of align incentives for everybody. You know I give marketers. Is cashing a confident that they can access. It provided incentives for cocoa users to upload their convent give them optic monetize that. And yet he can lead in the camera you know as some of the other. Action cameras out there don't have this incentive for users Patrick there you skate especially on and that's kind of power user and it's it shouldn't really compelling footage. What we have in terms of opera objected earnings for go pro over the next couple years digit growth rates are we looking at there. Well I mean it would back to what they did a year earlier this past quarter you know they shipped 93%. More units. You know which is absolutely incredible. So why not I think. That might be up to sustain. And you know some people. Most notably Andrew left an analyst over the top research. Who released. A paper a little while back. Because that that he's he's the wearable market are popping out property dispute that into the growth yeah it. But I think you know when you even are reversed there's their revenue stream united and and the like that the contact. Other possibilities you virtual reality and at a partnership with. Cool they're going to you'd be shooting like sixty video with you'd like 16 am outraged. Yeah it seems like there are a lot of other growth catalyst out there and dictating on just the hardware is. Do you have any concerns with regards to increased competition in the space is well I mean. Well window probe really first got up and running there wasn't anyone else really in there and it still does anyone completely in their niche but. A number of us startups are trying to challenge them at this point what type of competition are they basing. Yeah I think one of EU what most worrisome players in the state for bill Prodi jamming the Chinese manufacturer. And you know you hear their name come up quite a bit when erupt in the Smartphone competitors. And you know now with actual cameras as well you know there are low cost Chinese manufacture and they're gonna undercut premature anybody upright. And did you know that definitely a problem I think they'll grow enjoyed a certain. You know brand association that there there on the fact that the facto action camera you know you don't really hear people say like. So it is that date action and you here today over that Oprah yeah. So I think that identity it's huge for them. Particularly in the more developed markets like the US and your. All right very good will don't thanks for coming on with us send thanks again for all the info here. Our. Absolutely I was Dillon Lewis from the Motley Fool talking about go pro as well as amber road takers on those if you wanna look them up yourself for GP RO NA and beat hey good to be first I think that it would most communicating because that he's absolutely right these people do ask is that Google. Yet it's it's good to be first to keep in mind if you build a better product you get that association and the example gives Google for example. Google was not the first search engine. Who was actually I think third or fourth to the party the first ones you had. Use yet 10 before that even you had Lycos and Yahoo! you had all the Vista those were your ones that really. First to the party at Google came out and said look we've we've built a better product and that's why a growing Google something now you know being anything right by Microsoft's best efforts I've an ever being anything if you Tucker never know I don't being. Accusing. Me and I've used Yahoo! Clinton. There's I had problems with Google for one reason other than work that they worked for Yahoo! was fine Yahoo! is the as a search engine. Some would argue that the other search engines are less corrupted. In school at Google we all know is basically pay for play ranked know who was the opposite on I don't know used Yugo in new rules open. You personally followed forever rate has excelled whenever it does those Yahoo! and so is being. There's just yeah man yeah that they're not doing it deserves to but I thought I could stuff doesn't let you handle it isn't cool they've lost litigation where four. Putting their own clients ahead of everybody deals. In terms of love for for paid search absolutely but that's different from organic search him. Different markets because paid searches those first three items that come out right little gray box where they've had all kinds of issues with that. On the other side there organic search tends to use just the basic algorithm that pretty much most people can't even completely figured out just they've tweaked so much at this point now. Well we'd the have gone back to go pro VD. I don't even know who their competitors are in that space that there's a couple startups that are doing some interest in things I mentioned the other day there's a company called -- that is on making drones. That use the same type the cameras that go pro uses which I think is a very interesting development there. But you know he also 600 your camera companies are trying to get in there and icon and Canon and those types of guys but they're not really making. Significant inroads at this point. Go person. Art in that they're gonna let herd is somehow help promote the sale of your video. Is if you have some extreme because guys Wear that stuff doing mountain climbing they Wear it. When there might might kid wears when he's water skiing or other guys have pretty utility rate videos but. The one issue there is there's a low barrier to entry on that because anyone can put up a website and give you a speech to host your video and imagine let's say that apple comes out and says you can have it on iTunes. Slam dunk they get distribution that go pro dreams about. Thanks for tuning in to this hour of the financial exchange we are broadcasting our program from the insurer match dot com studios on Barry Armstrong and he is struck sot. Barry Armstrong. I'm joined by chuck exotic and truck come wondering if bad news is good news today we had really. Not terrible empire manufacturing data bit is pretty bad we also had bad retail sales numbers commodity 30 this morning. And I'm wondering if that is kind of the final nail in the coffin towards a rate hike on Thursday. Because I see the stock market is up the Dow's up a 159 point well I. I think that it is and it's it's unfortunate because I do think that if you look in let's take the empire manufacturing survey for example this is a survey that comes out. Came out at 8:30 this morning. And pretty much showed that there are significant contraction in the New York State manufacturing industries and let's talk about why. Mean the dollars up 20% body of young right and and that hurts manufacture we have to be sensitive to. What shouldn't be surprising. This isn't gonna be surprised ideally. I think the dead is taking that into consideration as they're saying geez we can't afford to lose these manufacturing jobs again. They just came back well I think that when you get this though OK and here is how I look at it when it's all said and done. If and this is a case where you do have the US dollar getting stronger now which is hurting manufacturing. The doubts that the the other side of that. Is if it is hurting US manufacturing. It is making imported goods significantly cheaper which in turn. If you look at people who are affected by those manufacturing jobs. For the for any other American you typically seeing cheaper goods coming right now obviously people in the manufacturing industry they are negatively impact your darn it significantly. And that is a big big problem is those are good jobs for the US in the long run they tend to be higher paying more stable and so those are the types of jobs that you want. But for the Fed to come out and say. And what they haven't said this answer is granted a putting words in their map they haven't even used for for them to come out and say and my guess is they'll say look. Manufacturing is weakened him because of that we can't move up off of zero rates right now both admit that manufacturing was gonna week and you you knew that when the dollar started strengthening at the beginning of this year so to say that you you can't do it now what that's what happens when you raise interest rates is manufacturing weakened so. I don't really think that that's an escape router it shouldn't be an escape route. Four the Fed when it's all said and done. Retail sales missed by a point 1% but the previous month was revised up by point two so still a net gain there when it's all said and done and so. Not a huge Josh Shipp there. And really you know that the one thing at a ten year treasury to squeeze in up a little 223 yeah yeah I did but on the other side if you look at three and six months the coming down Windsor pricing in the fact that will the Fed may end up raising more down the road no less right now that's what the treasury yield curve is telling you is that expectations are. Not now but morally. Ford shares up and Alcoa shares should also be up I would think reason for Ford shares being up. They've got a lot of good products to sell Alcoa they've had a tough run in the EU look at the trading range this dollar and stock their aluminum manufacturer. And it's been as low 797. Shared his high 1775. Al cold getting good news from Ford. Yeah and the company that he if you go back to watch the pre recession numbers this the company trading ties about 47 dollars a share so it still is only about 20% of its previous market cap they get killed by trying to. Well they are and the problem is commodity prices have just plunged in the last year now instead they've gotten beaten up because of that as a result the stock is lost and still nearly 50% from its highs but when you look at the deal that the signing with Ford here. It's to expand the use of their aluminum alloys in the air products and obviously the biggest one being the Ford F 150 that did go to an aluminum body this year. Major shift for pride that it previously been steel based still a steel frame but aluminum body new electric CBC name they're gorgeous they're not there on the line got an old one of them like. F 150. And the I'm thinking about and actually thought about trade it in I just don't drive it enough to make it worthwhile yeah. Know that they look like absolutely outstanding trucks have talked to a couple guys who've actually bought the construction guys like a mandate they are. Head over heels for and they say it's like 700 pounds lighter. Senator pounds lighter problem is Tulsa most expensive truck forwards ever made. You know what you guys in the trades are making money now out of work. Yeah but it's you look at and a myopic some of them walking out then then blah with like sixty 67000. Corporate or more than that average cost Allen and F 150 is up to live the 47000. But if you suppan up and you get up to 8085 easy you know without breaking a sweat there's so it's certainly when you look at Alcoa great deal for them especially given the fact that Ford continues to see improving sales of the M 150. There's an initial skepticism when they moved that aluminum frames but it seems to have dissipated at this point. And they're seeing sales that are quite strong but really the best they've ever seen it does about the new Porsche to see that. I did and ask well tell our listeners a little bit about. And electric car it's. It's it's it's it's meant to compete. With the Tesla but it's much better looking portion can't go electric it Argo this is worse than when Dillon went electric and telling a lot of cars are going to be need an idiot still like electric cars. But if you drive when the problem is once you drive an electric car you if you drive Tesla. Just go out don't don't give me that there shrug. Go go and drive it tests and tell me you know while driving. Here's a hypothetical question for if Harley-Davidson came out with an electric motorcycles. What would you say that somebody did about them for hours it was apparently. I'm not sure I I think what Carly yeah I think somebody's got there there is an electric motor cycle a telling. People love the the problem is you guys don't know her missing until you try you gotta try it it's always. I don't have it out. They they did it tests they did in the demo there Bruntlett bet everything you can't do when the electric. Porsche has that this is the worst and when they came out with the four door in the tie and an average. And worse than that it's something's telling to have that shall OK you need that you need especially. The Porsche he got that engine whine and very young guy you're awfully old fashioned. On certain things cart cars and again I love the idea of driving those cars but there's certain things you don't mess with the cars Porsche should always be gas powered center and that's how. It needs to be our. I'll let you off the hook on the island. Paid real legends are heating oil prices are at their lowest level since 2009. You know it and I was looking at the average savings so this winter you heat your home with the oil. You're probably gonna save maybe 800 bucks if you have a really big old drafty house like me you may take more than a thousand bucks. What about the cost of our church or we did that story and the homeowners insurance since all the money receive in home heating oil. We're going to insurance or expand on our homeowner's insurance well it's. It's just added it's always seems like at work that way to zero sum game ways say oh great I'm saving money in this part of my house but now this is more expensive and what we're seeing here again home heating oil prices there lowest since 2009 now so when about six years. And an average of winter. Average home receive nearly a thousand dollars but again that's going right out the door. Into increased insurance cost for a lot of folks in the New England area. You know I've seen the lower electric rates coming in to Rhode Island Rhode Island. Electricity costs are going down by about 10% I haven't seen the rest of knowing them yet you know seen anything in her in in Connecticut to word Vermont I've seen the price no I haven't seen anything he should be coming down. I haven't seen anything anywhere else on curious to see exactly what numbers we end up getting all the bigger and after to see where they are in that that was National Grid. And they filed rates with the Rhode Island attorney general was up in it for and it was going to be either ten or 11% decrease in the cost of electricity in I think it was yeah 11%. McDonald's have you been what is best ideas or McDonald's. Last week sadly now tell us we can actually kinda cargo area I don't really like it but. They got a new big Mac are new quarter pounder excuse me coming out it's more than a quarter pounder. But what's for its four point 25 all right guys that are more so by the time they cook it shrinks down to two point eight that the new ones that cut I'd like McDonald's. Use an old fashion company but they're starting to innovate now like. And look at a click innovation but again you can't say it's a quarter pounder that's not a quarter pounder. He got to keep that the same look at if you're having trouble selling it cost OK you'll get more sales and so. Alec what they're doing some of their other areas where there will try and welfare food taste better their movie they Ari restaurant that is the priority. I mean you guys bemoan the fact that McDonald's that you always go no I go because I have to. When you mean do because I go if I am in a hurry and I need to get to a meeting and stop on the way to stop because I know the McDonald's drive through it and get through more quickly than anything else. That's the only reason I go to McDonald's if it wasn't for that I would never go Alex takes its taste I think it's terrible I only goes similar to check ornament a pine for the time I donor a lot of might waves McDonald's. Well you know I've been probably a couple years so that says it shows how much I know. Anyway coming up. Truck exotic is going to teach you. How to buy an iPhone and I mean it's a tip believe it's gotten this confusing he knew that he should just be step when he walked into the store and buy it and I really don't care to we already bought yours like pre ordered it but yet you should see their Verizon the other day in my head was about to explode and and what they were trying to tell my well we've got an expert coming on from USA today in Yahoo!'s name is rob. Pogo are all well man. How Micheal Barrow is that I did you wanted to help out yeah you're Italian and so rob tiger roar thank you or anyway he's an expert on how to buy an iPhone if you'd need to buy a new iPhone. And turning out answers the age old question of what is the best way to go about buying your iPhone. We're joined now by rob Guerrero from USA today in Yahoo! rob thanks for coming on thus. I didn't hear rob let's talk a little bit about the the new iPhone upgrade program that apple. Has announced what exactly. Aren't the charms in it just to begin. It's a really to offer and it's another way Apple's sort of pushed the carriers out of the picture of little you buy that are directly from apple. It's installment plan program we have on actually app. After upgraded every year you don't. You can have more than you would initiate bought it got on outright and gotten apple care slots which is they're part where protection extended warranty program. In keeping is that they have undue reliance on walked seat and then by and decide okay Angela AT&T. Monthly you can go at sprint and even on contract with them which is easy must people offer month to month. The country deals. And also seen happen to go overseas you can use in yet occur it would that they are. So you have this phone that is much less tied to anyone carrier. And know rationally by for making keynote be locked you can do it for that anybody else for the next two years. So when you look at this in terms of the overall cost is that still less or is it more just the freedom that you're getting by moving to this plan. But the thing you might not actually save money the one thing is if you decide you don't need apple care plus if you trust yourself to not drop own. You know. Again patent like that uniquely save money on that not on the sale of the eighteenth tee there there early a great deal was not particularly advantageous. But sprint has released deal called iPhone forever where. It has let on fervor also occurring for upper at the end of two years heaters keep making at least payments personal liberty paid off or you apt trading right. She mobilized nearly a regular work on at least bases that continues and running as well. This weather map it's really complicated retraining and is our are you are into the carrier. Honestly answer serve it depends but in general with sprint and nobody can beat Apple's price with AT&T and Verizon you can opt. Do we have any numbers in terms of what percentage of people are typically trading in phones vs you know buying new ones out rated do we know any statistics there. That's unclear to name and remember you can't just treating any marked on it as the one we cracked the screen and it reboot every three hours on sounder they're not gonna. Back in the digital. Knows. Yet so wet when we take a look at the overall programs that are out there if you had to rank them. From most friendly to the consumer to least friendly how do you think that those would stack up at this point. So apple is very good if you know you're not gonna go up another that's the thing apple or not. You know if you decide to Internet and encourages got a more adjusting proposition. Well. Unique and it sank a much money at government and get album award out of it but appear for now with the iPhone seven comes out and it's fantastic. You know great you've got some real good deal. I like T-Mobile option mainly because their costs are low they have great international roaming they've gotten customer only features. If feelings over eating your plans roller the next. That skit the other hand Verizon's coverage as source than everyone else and they know so they can charge a lot more some features they don't keeping an ever earlier reduced. We've seen quite a shift over the last couple years where if we go back to probably 20082009. Every phone and several bought had that two year contract attached to it and as you mentioned. At the outset we've seen both the cares now really move to. A model where you no longer have that long term contract what do the next changes that are likely to take place and pricing for Smartphones over the next couple years that consumers need to watch out for. What I'm thinking is now that. When you move away from two year contract so smoothly from creditors subsidized where you know you're getting good deal upfront but then the carrier keeps making money. Month after month and higher rates. Do you actually see what the phone really caught a I think that opens a little more room in the market for value priced phones not bargain basement once the wanted to caught 400 dollars or five dollars vs. 650 dollars which is the actual or real was price. Starting price they had found six. Many sequels but given nexus on Indian or strange get companies like one or one that there have more to do business with tiger there only on direct to customer. Very good will rob I appreciate you coming on thanks for all the info here. Iraq that was Robert Guerrero from USA today in Yahoo! dot really interesting when you start to look at in terms that apple care now platform being included. In Apple's. A lot of people leaning towards the when we get the upgrade the automatic upgrade yeah an annual basis you know big east. Has your phone lasts longer than a year but not. It certainly does the last two years or two by the end of the second year I find that the phones start to. I got two and a half years media. Now again and have had on our last one data gap that's about it or an in look you saw that thing I was destroying it also know and it's still made it two and a half years so I think it the longest you can go is probably that two and a half to three years and I'd be interested and and I'd be opposed it and senior tech T know you want the new phone every year right and wrong and if you're exactly yeah but IE I don't know it's. You get the highest trade indictment. It's kind of like on a car if you wait to your car's got a 100000 miles on you know agony much forward on trade if you trade your Kart 60000 but he is still quite a bit. Tim you're still paying more in the end just because you're getting new product and frequently self. I think one thing I'd be interest in seeing is apple right now if you look at how they do that apple care they run that apple care program it to separate one for each device that you have almost wonder if they'd look at it like an insurance company. Where they say look if you bundle maybe get a cheaper price overall I'd be curious if they'd right they do something like that. RA. You know we should talk about this this is a follow up to yesterday's story about yield. There's a lot of people chasing yield because the banks are due and many favorite track where you walk into a bank can. YouTube effectively earn a negative net raider return. Ya and it's it's. Really forced people out into areas that they typically wouldn't be considering people who used to be able to get four to 5% on CD. Can't get that anymore talking 12% feel lucky right now and so they've pushed out and started looking. Both that dividend paying stocks as well as bonds that are in that range trying to figure out they have other options the important things that a lot of people who op previously haven't invested in these types of areas. Don't really know to look. And so they can and getting hurt pretty badly there and so I think that you know what you see is there's also been a market on the institutional side to create products for. These types of people on whether it's something like lending club were you putting your money in and getting 579%. In return bones that you give or other products out there. There's a number of different areas that are present really in the economy now that you didn't see five or six years ago so it's he's all. Or you can lend money here but it's right that it's treacherous well that's that's what I wanna warn people that's really the whole purpose of yeah conversations to warn people somebody tells you they can get used 79%. Some warmer it promised you 12% return debt up to 12% so you've got to be careful in terms of a loan shark if you really have to be careful in terms of what. You're looking out there you want to see. First are these register products sector are they. On the you know what's the actual background can I get the financial information there you want to have all of this information to make sure that you're not going out and and purchasing something that you don't understand because we see it happen all the time we're someone's buying something they don't understand and all of a sudden. The thing goes belly up two years now on this and they're going well now would have liked it right. You're listening to the financial exchange and we are broadcasting from the insurer match dot com studios up next will be talking about the most valuable professional sports franchise. It's Barry Armstrong and the financial exchange on the financial exchange radio network. And I'm curious Ryan as to why we are seeing so much solar being installed during the past few years I drive around Boston IC solar panels everywhere but we're seeing right now is we're kind of that's sweet spot within the Massachusetts solar market but we still had these giant incentives to do this you know tax credit covering 30% of the cost money from the state senate programs covering. Good bounce to the arrest and was seen until the toll prices going up or solar prices are coming in dramatic sort prices back in 1975 were about hundred dollars per watt of solar powered down to under a dollar. The crisis has level that's where we're seeing mature markets like Germany. So we have incredibly low cost while we still have massive incentives to do so because that we're kind of in the perfect storm piracy study that it is the same cost to create Solarz it is natural gas electric. Sounds very and then was chief factor in some of the environmental benefits of that sort can be even cheaper yeah. What about battery storage do we need to consider that one or installing solar I think something. I think down the road batteries are becoming much cheaper if there's anything by Elon Musk that's coming out. All sold out being in next year but I still. Without it. You get fusion centers and then you can always add a battery systems on the route. Progress I was an 88 so performance. Anyway that's the question what car is famously used for the first. For for time travel. In the movie back to the future 85 actually. Magazine I five was the first night's X 8680 is our text number as Michael J. Fox if it might go to fox outstanding movie one of my favorites all right well let's see if somebody figures that question now is it's actually. I think that's a harder questions than the previous question. About Ohno the dukes I don't know that's that's one of the most famous cars and world partly because of that movie but also partly because of the gulf window gull wing doors let them and CEO got arrested member he's trying to. You went to jail for trying to sell drugs is that right after his maneuvers company anyway. The let's talk about the most valuable sports teams in the world. Correct me if I'm wrong but they are seem to be exclusively. NFL football teams well these are the the most about these are just the NFL list that we have all it is okay I thought it news including other but the cowboys are the most valuable sports franchise the world. Four billion dollars when they. Like why would they be worth some say the they have won America's team it's its two reasons one it is America's team the brand still credibly strong still still. Still second reason the stadium they have there. Hundred to 2101000 seats when they retrofitted for other events and you talk about just what you're able to get coming into that stadium in terms of big name acts in big name shows. It is just a money making machine for me now. Now does that is that including the stadium and the four billion yes that is including the state that's pretty new to donate bills that have been last night 2012. Hours or three years ago yeah I can twelve was the first season that that was opened so this is going into its fourth season right now. Patriots not bad though right patriots are number two that night team patriots are second this is why whenever you say that Bob Kraft should have done something different nicely as 3.2 billion reasons why you shouldn't sometimes you stand on principle you learn that some days you get older. Sometimes you do the right thing regardless of the financial ramifications. In you stand by your quarterback. I think that when there's three point. Billion dollars just as much money. So he bought for 3.2. Dollars I'm not gonna. I won't deny it I thought and said look you lose half this if you go into the NFL I wouldn't sue the NFL. A bit if anyone out there who says they wanted to. Crazy you wouldn't do it for one point for. 3.2 billion dollars the rest of the list here for the NFL teams Washington Redskins it two point 85 billion. New York Giants two point eight sept as the 49ers two point seven and so on down mullah. What amazes me is some of these teams stink like the jets out of them. The bears look at that is that taxpayers. Texans are Philadelphia Eagles are 2.4 bit I would give you fifty cents to. But is at least done something they've let hates super balls if they want us to portal powered Houston Texans ranked higher here then they get new state Texas Tech big city too Phillies got a new stadium in a big city. It's the that's true we have been telling try not to how much of the jaguars worth just accuracy to renounce. Out on the legacy of a playoff that there are dead last. In the NFL in that last have to be think that's new we have actually no I've got the list here. We do have the full list actually. The jaguars. If we take a look at it. Announced opal hit like to welcome back it cited so it so far I don't I can't read the fine print if it's somewhere in here there. There there have been years or they weren't as good as a college team you know and liabilities that may be this year as a matter of fact right notre tons honorary Notre Dame IP of the beat the Jacksonville Jack you're probably easily you know. Pay quick announcement on the part of Boston's soul of the sun is out in your running your air conditioning. Even if the sun's not. Out your you're making money off a solar power in imagine. You know we're going into the shoulder season where you're not running your air conditioning you could actually be getting check every month from your utility company. All you have to do is install solar panels on your roof I've talked to people I've been niece. Who installed solar panels and a roof she gets a check for about forty bucks every month from her utility company Getty pays all over bill. And she ends up getting in net check of forty dollars a month from or utility company. You could learn more about installing solar. Panels on your house or your business by calling 855. 9799446. At 28559799. Before 46. At least at very least. Go through the process of an analysis get the numbers understand with the tax credits are. I think you'll be shocked at how inexpensive it is relative to what it cost even three or four years ago. And in the company's Boston solar their phone numbers tall free it is 855. 9799446. That is the number that you should dial. Our I was going through this list and it's the most popular NFL teams by state and I was shocked Connecticut. You know the most popular NFL team in an IO. Sure is giants yet Dan York giants line on your writings not surprising I was I I would have thought that in. You know the Nutmeg state. If they're most of that they can get up to a pats game for you get west of Hartford it is all New York Giants fan in New York fans and all New York just saving the Yankees. With the Yankees ending with Rangers it is strictly New York country all right so go to California. In the state of California what do you think would be the most popular NFL team in California 49ers. It's the scene the chargers and state relief. This is why I don't trust this survey here how about Florida. Four let's go to fort gardens Florida had to the dolphins eighteen I'm. Buccaneers there you're right the Buccaneers should be the dolphins Hawaii. They're favorite team the San Francisco about that. How about New York State. Think about New York State all the teams that they have buffalo you're right yeah you're you may not buffalo. I I don't know I don't just say no matter what if bubble I trust the survey are as far as I can throw how about. Pennsylvania this Australia house or the other seniors. No Eagles it's Pennsylvania easy not Eagles Eagles. That's tapered capitals Eagles know but that they've never won anything right how many super balls. The Steelers won seven. 66. They've won six Super Bowls yet the most popular football team in the state. Is the but I've but I believe that just if you look at the size of those cities respectively and there should be more Eagles fans are looking at there's no way. That the San Diego Chargers are more popular than 49 California there's no Darryl and more popular in Nevada there the number one team in about David this. The survey it's done by a company called vivid seats that specialize in the sale of tickets for live events via. And so they simply looked at who was buying tickets where that doesn't mean the team is more popular now does now. Well. Both locally and bull Loney. Anyway coming up. It was a you know wanted it to print things did pretty well exit you know you don't you know hit one that you put it hit me. And with the private detective so that's were dead yeah and so that's the hit and kind of took over actually the book blind law. It's all about Chucky. The casino business owner Austin. Right and these two characters that I've been introduced to so far bench McCarty. Right parties are pleased for caustic. And and he's the monster yeah right he's the 10 yeah he and Indies. He's he had. The guy so far I like I have I didn't so far he's a lovable guy a couple of people but you know. In the course of business you know people try to kill him past that he asked to respond and I acted as a lot of stuff in here that people people argument Null but how things work like in the first Wright talked about how. And the mob connection you'd think like I would think to how he that the mob connection was to help collect money that's not really what it does as well. Opened the mob connections is just protect you. From that gives you. Egyptian was steady like ping you have a steady money's no nobody to help. Hop protection. That you pay like a thousand months.
