I. This is the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and sharks are. You're exclusive look at business and financial news affecting your day your city your world. Stay informed and up today about the economic and market trends plus get breaking business news and every day. And now the financial exchange with the Barry Armstrong and chuck saga. You have ventured a political free zone. Here at the financial exchange politics bad money good end to that end your joined by. Trucks ought to and very Armstrong and we start off with economic news that broke early this morning I'm talking about specifically. Durable goods orders. Boy what a number we had on durable goods were point 4% that was much. Better than the expectation. Good number they're beating expectations the consensus estimate between 3.3 3.5 percent say had a good number there. For durable goods orders you also saw as we do every Thursday we had weekly unemployment claims came in at 261000. Decline of 1000 from the week before and we've been in this range. Really for the last couple months now it is not a whole lot of movement here it has been very stable on this front. Really since probably June herself now we saw a little bit of a spike in now march and April but it's been very stable since. Does this give us any indication as to what we were received next Friday the Friday of Labor Day weekend what are we looking for jobs report. You know fumbles and edit this week we are getting numbers like this when we had that stinker of a report because it may or June in an area that really bad monthly report. He'll receive I can find any projections right now no projections I don't have any estimates out right now I think the base that you're looking for for next month. Iran for next week is probably 200000. Young players that's the lowest that you'd like to see him but I mean look you've seen the last couple months we've got system. Big numbers that have been coming out the last couple months here last one was 255. I'm hoping for a blockbuster number. And the reason I want that numbers I want as much pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates is possibly you know 300000. Number. In August in terms of job creation point chalk that puts a lot of pressure on him yell to raise rates in September we'll look up to. You what yesterday we're got a it was in 82% chance that we were going to see a hike in September and today it's a point 4%. That's it and a start today via the chance that. The chance we're going to see height was 18% yesterday right today its up point force that's there you're seeing a little bit of movement there and I'll tell you you get a big jobs report. Coming out next week in. You may seriously have some September considerations even December now is up to a 57%. Chance of at least one hike up from 51% yesterday. Have you ever wondered. Why. Taking into over is so much less expensive. Then taken a ride in a limo or a taxi I have that's a question I've asked myself periodically. A give an example when I went to visit in California went to a wedding in California. And I took a taxi from the airport to my hotel was 46 dollars on the way back to the airport I took a lift car and it was twenty dollars well. The reason it's so much less expensive is mover and lift are subsidizing the cost they're paying the drivers in their subsidizing the cost of that ride. Who Burke announced do we we just got news that Hoover lost 750. Million dollars in the second quarter. And they lost one point two billion dollars in the first half of the year so clearly. They are a loss leader right they're losing money in an effort to gain market share. They are the question that I wonder about his how much bigger today have to get before they're finally profitable because we'll give a company that. In theory based on all of the private rounds they've done at this point. In theory has a valuation of about seventy billion dollars. Now okay. So you've got to get at some point the next couple years you've got to get at least somewhere close to profitability in order to be able to justify that valuation does. You know you get to a certain size now I know that we looked in what was it yesterday I think like 21% of bonds Smartphone users have the uber wrap up so that there's still chance for expansion there obviously. But you not to get ever. What do you use it because it's cheaper or do you use it because it's more convenient both. So if it was more expensive would still use. How much more expensive same as prices attacks because right now the big advantage in Hoover had skipped right. Is it and I would I here's and I probably shouldn't say this on here but. I would use it even if it was more expensive. Then a limo or tax I was. You don't have to make a phone call he it's easier to use the cart shows up beginning and you go it's always clean the guys are polite and nice. If it were and again let's take a look at and an average trip if it were is thirteen bucks for newborn 1010 for cab. I'm taking account used Hala how would you get the caddie knows how to do that what you mean metallic EU member in the old days you stuff that's like trying to flag down the catwalk to the street. He still I didn't I go out to the row idea was last time it took a taxi. Last month played of ceased to use tax. Yet from the airport and and I use I don't like to use tax I took it to have gone on Monday from the airport they have to from the airport. Yeah union new frontier there's very few rumors that up delivery plates slide off the volatile Lotta times a long way to get one which I knew that. I use a multi from the airport anyway day and just an interesting news about over. Amazon. Getting into a new business Amazon.com. Today. Launched Amazon vehicles it is an online platform for users to reassert to do research on cars auto parts and accessories. Boy wouldn't you love this. So funny story about this yesterday I was actually I was sitting at home it was around 930 last night and my fiance and I we're going through this the registry that we're building on Amazon were to register for car wasn't so we're going through they have all these different categories we see this thing Amazon vehicles than it normally. Can't buy car on Amazon and then you start going through it and it's pretty interest example these parts that you can look up and have all in all of my car you can't buy a car. OK can't buy car right now I would imagine they want to get to the point now where you can buy cars there. But I'll tell you you know I was going through and if things I didn't even know about I mean we're going through did you know Amazon sells one. He'd think I didn't know that. You don't talk I did not know that by commute you could you get a mask you they can't ship to match yet so there's still the still figure Napa it's like there's like 22 states that you can chip to move. At this point we are going through and let it go. Some pretty messy start Tucker to your point I think if you bias let's say you can buy in Rhode Island I don't know the canned. But I think when you do it's coming from a Rhode Island liquor store in the state laws on liquor and wind are very strict. Don't it's it's very weird it's it's like almost five winery I remember it was a big. Biggio a couple years ago Drew Bledsoe was finally able to ship has won the Massachusetts. But it's you know it's it's it's very confusing to try to actually figure it out. But Amazon as you have looked as Amazon vehicles thing they continue to again what I love about Jeff Bezos he tries everything. We'll think about you're an auto parts right in all of the sudden now you know gate because if your car guy rate in your working on your car in your garage. Wouldn't it be nice talker EC along and it do the oil change this weekend and change to sell our books right. Just word of the month or not through the dealer you were Vermont Thursday. They arrive on Friday in changer oiler change spark plugs unknown on Saturday Democrats. I think this could be a big business for them and YouTube needs at a justice tough on the local auto parts guys. Where would I'd be really cares remember yes they were talking about a home Depot's gonna start doing odd deliveries you know extreme barely date memoir and contractors and so forth. What are Amazon tries to get into that at some point. That the we're all you do eat put him in their own warehouse put him anywhere else you know start start actually knocking it it's that's a big business with a lot like Home Depot better better get on the ball it's it's a lot of overhead for them to try to figure out and do you take a hold of warehouse space for those types of things. And you have to yet yet to get entirely new wide distribution arrangements and so forth but. It's something that if I were Amazon that's an area I'd be looking to. Tucker and chuck. Are you guys still on the dole your parents supporting human anyway no I'm supporting my parents now. How so. My Netflix account twelve dollars a month though the 500000 dollars they invested in tuition talker that's payback and a and ultimately I think 240 years it's gonna take a long time but I'm gonna get that that paid off. You know presided always had a cast aspersions young guys sane here in yours leaching off of mom and dad. Turns out. Mom and dad are leaching off of millennial and in the next segment we're going to be joined by Kelli Grant. From CNBC are we talking about. Leader bank does tremendous amount of mortgage loans as a matter fact I've used them a couple times to refinance properties in the past. Jake how's the mortgage business these days it's been an extremely busy Barea. There are a lot of people buying Holmes. So that's kept the purchase market very very busy and on top of that race are still at all time lows so we've a lot of folks who are refinancing their homes either get a better rate Orr reports some cash out because of properties appreciate. That's risen asked how does somebody know whether they should call to refine. Well you know. They're there's really 22 ways if they feel that the rate can be improved. Give a story am and you know thirty year fixed racer all time lows. If you have anything in there in the 4% range frankly give us rate that might even do something. Or if you need to take some cash and of your property wondered for a college tuition for kids aren't you guys have home equity lines of credit we have home equity lines of credit as well and the cool thing about that is. If you already have the green looked great on your first mortgage you know home equity line of credit which will leave your first loan as it is allow you access the equity. A study that you posted I think it was yesterday it made it moments ago I can't remember but it had to don't worst. To it's one of those weeks. On the it. Do with the study reflected. Was that millennial. Are financially supporting. Their parents and pretty large numbers I was surprised by that where you. I definitely wasn't something that I I've. Britain a little bit about the four you know and our comments are surely script is stable. We all hear about the Maloney or are staying in their parents' couch how much induces the millennial paying rent to their parents but. You know they're actually a lot of different numbers that are out there pointing to more millennia older kind of finding themselves part of this sandwich generation name. Kids of their own and they're also financially supporting. What is how do you define a millennial in terms of age. You know I mean and that collateral worth that exact definitions up for debate that roughly in these are people who need a field of colonial or maybe about 3536. At this point in you talk like mid twenties to mid thirties roughly. Impact and you found there in guess who's a TD bank study that 19%. A millennia holes are a financial supporter of a parent to the tune on average of 181000 dollars a year. It's pretty substantially to TD catch those numbers you know we are staying at this in new Transamerica center for retirement based Serbian extinct about 14% of millennial. There's another circuit decide you grow and that thing about 17%. You look at that it's either bets that that are fifteen to 20% Poland needles figure they keep popping up. People who are helping now parents did you know a lot of cases it's people with health problems or they haven't saved enough for retirement. Regardless they're making some pretty substantial financial contribution. So Kelly when we talked about. Millennial helping out parents this isn't like hell I'll let my parents use my Netflix. Maybe maybe in a smaller level and that. No generally viewed through these are people who elect are making a more substantial financial contribution to to household. We have any data on previous generations and how this stacks up with what we've seen previously. Wolf there were some indeed Hilton mr. recent Transamerica surveyed they were looking at it just the number people who say that they are supporting parents and 14% millennial. It's about seven percentage and acts which you know that's usually that the generation wares were talking but do you think of loses this election creation yet and even among boomers there are you know decent amount of boomers who are still hoping now. They're aging parents of the thing you're really talking about you know much older adults. Right well let's let's flip the that the question because then. You talk about. The a little more than a third of adults ages 21 to 45 are getting support from their parents so yes more when he goes are supporting their parents. But the parents in many instances to the tune of more than a third are still supporting millenniums. That is true and that's usually what we care about the numbers there at the parents who were still supporting millennial but if you look at. The kind of support that appearance or providing you know it is not always big things collector paying for all the living expenses that things like. Based upon their child on the stove on plan or they're helping them cover insurance or at least have them on there insurance until they're 26. Either helping with things like who would or clothing bills so it's not that they are necessarily paying for everything but they're still hoping with something. Well this pew study released this in the spring Kelly. It's found that for the first time in more than a 130 years adults ages third eighteen to 34 are more likely to be living in their parents' home. Then with the spouse or partner in their own counsel that's that's quite a statistic. It is it is you know and we've we've written about this issue a lot done in these exact comment. You know a lot of it it seems that we do hear from parents to do it based elector kids are making smarter decisions by doing this this isn't necessarily. Somebody who's living at home because they don't have a job they have no interest in getting wants. These are usually kids that have a lot of student loan debt work. They're hoping that they're gonna buy their first home on meet the half a good job but they're just trying to get those savings under their belt makes Smart financial decisions right out of the gates says it. When they do go out on the ground that they are not a unit secondary and maybe about living situation with that they can go out and either first Helm right off about. Got it got Kelly thank you very much for your time we sure appreciate it. That's Kelli Grant from CNBC talking to us about millennial and you know to her point. I know just off the top of the cop. Two mobile any deals that graduating college with in the last couple of years. That are both living at home with their parents rent free but they are aggressively paying down their student loans both these kids I call them kids are in their twenties. But both of these kids have student loans in their neighborhood of thirty to 40000 dollars. And they both do you know just came up in conversations that you know your living home out of the home for the year and a little for eighteen months. And beat the they have a plane. But they're paying down the other laying down like 20000 dollars student loans a year there's one guy yeah the the young man that I talked to was paying 2500 dollars a month towards students got a rent. No rent. No car he could walk to the train yeah and another weekend he's still borrows mom and dad's car. And then the young lady that I talked to she was paying 2200 dollars a month. Two words are student old Soviet both graduated college they both had jobs that were you know decent paying jobs. But they were dead set on paying down the debt which I think is the Smart thing to do. And to be honest though you know those types of situations we're someone's living at home for a couple years they are working and paying down debt. I think that makes a ton of sense because that's debt that you know it's it's not low interest debt you're not paying one or 2% on that the brain on those loans to be 68% in a lot of cases so. It makes sense to get that debt paid down. I think the area where people say on the testimonials living in the basement is where someone. You know doesn't necessarily have a full time jobs they're living at home this kind of boot you off their parents. That's different situation but look at your aggressively paying down high interest student debt makes harness. On the way in as you know my generation. We don't really want you guys movement back in this I just. The tally that we don't wanna move back in with me you don't wanna move back any night but it's no fun for you guys decide. I did for six months after I graduate listen. Pure hell the first month the two was nice and after that it was awful. Rhetoric from both your mom and dad forever and who is on happier your mama battery. I think they were but they just in Helmand that that'll break my heart. Are you financially supporting an adult and we now that's our poll question of the day go to financial exchange show dot com to take part in our poll question. 44% of you are financially supporting an adult and we member. 55%. Of you are not so there's the results of our. Poll question of the day thus far. Awkward target for outrage over at BP and you know we covered this epi pens story yesterday. And I did not know. That the CEO. Of this company was eight tax dodging daughter on the senator. That's a pretty aggressive. Right there will mylan labs right they changed the pitched the CEO mylan labs works in the United States but they're headquartered in near quotes. In the Netherlands and not pay American taxes right so they screw American consumers pay turgeon. 2000 box for epi pens and then they don't pay any taxes. And she's the daughter of Joseph mansion who's a Democrat from West Virginia. Yeah I mean look the epi pen thing I think is the bigger issue receive funny companies that do own versions all the time it's me out because the tax code is. Pretty awful that's you know that's the nature of the beast until something's done there pretty awful you're being very gentle. On it's it's Thursday were a day away from the time and you know I feel in the gentlemen than if this were Tuesday. But obviously what the the epi pen stuff you know we talked about this yesterday and she's been doing a full publicity tour the last couple days now all right you like fusion spin control trying to just get this us. Say give them away you gonna get a call in which the ministry of but do you know you're gonna it's doing with a smile on her. And again this is we've seen this before with you know things that people need that they have to pay that price for because they need it. And it's you know it's I imagine that you pay 2000 bucks for the epi pen write this one family paid 2000 dollars and you hope you don't use of where you hope you never have to use of illegal bad. They go bad other thousand dollars next year big discrepancy was really that bad after years three years it is it that we're we're still debating. Hit the road not in Pittsburgh. But in Singapore and we talked to the founders this company few months of. Yeah we did a few months back we talked to other founders of the company called new economy and they were developing IT by the way not Carnegie. Marcus what put them out Smart guy is he better than Carnegie me you know just my opinion you can make that argument here at least first they got that birdie right they beat them to the punch in notes just like the Americans landed on the moon for the Russians you better believe Canadians for the Americans. Canadians found the moon right now and but yes in in Singapore and economies rolling out these self driving taxis. In order to continue development of their products they chose Singapore. You remember because the regulation is much more uniform and much more streamlined than what we have in the US in the US. You have different wrote signals depending on the state county sometimes even the talent that you don't. Where Singapore it's one set of signals one set of road signs for the entire city country whatever you want to call now okay. And so they are rolling these out right now and I morbid dictator ship twos and they hear the gears it's more. No money authoritarian in terms of their form a government in the US much closer yeah. It's and in so what you're seeing here is that an economy's going to be rolling out a couple different kinds test equals one made by Renault one made by Mitsubishi. They have a computer engineers was a back up human driver in the car in case anything goes wrong just like Cooper does. And puts a learning experience for him. Yes there are they're really going to be just testing this is small area in Singapore about a point eight square mile also get it you're not talking about a big. Area the the real place where they're doing testing on it I've got to give credit to number I mean they are. Gemma big advocate of this technology and are you guys are both very resistant to you like to drive and things like that but I'll remind you. 90%. Of automobile accidents. Are caused by human error not because the car breaks down. It's not because the bridge collapses not because the road conditions are bad. 90%. Of automobile accidents are caused by humans take the humans out of the equation. And you're gonna have a lot fewer accidents were up I'm with ya and I just think it's a longer runway to get this into the hands of most people I'm trying to figure out how to make money it's. Because I think this is coming. I think this news. Like the next Internet. Tight bubble I think there's tremendous. Amount of money I have and in a I knew how to do it boy I would tell you guys enjoyed loaded up a separate statement that's. There's got to be a way to make it totally has. I think I just think of the aging population in this country you know you go to you you talked to. People that are in their eighties right is still strongly still wanna go to the gym they still wanna work out they wanted to get there paired on the wanna go to dinner. You know what if you're near east pretty good chance you don't wanna drive at night there currently driving at night now. Now I'd I don't really advocate junior eighty struck. It's it's legitimately. Dangerous right you know maybe your seventies may be your starting to have a deterioration in your vision or your hearing right. Imagine the increased mobility. That the geriatric population. Receives with robotic driving I just think there's my and that and that generation by the way. They've got tons of money to spend on these cars and services they'll. I I agree I just think you look at the average age of the US fleet which I think right now is closing in on twelve years or else it's you know it's a long cycle transition. I think it's probably 2030. Before you see this become a mainstream all thing. Disagree I I think chuck this is going to be. The New York. The this stuff is moving rapidly and people are dying because of this game text and there's nothing you can do to stop texting and distracted driving nothing. I don't I don't disagree we'll know you can you can you've tires which has refused to we've gotten soft you know. But I I just think it's again with big purchases like this and big transitions. Doesn't happen instantly remember the Internet okay especially look at something even the simplest high speed Internet now okay. High speed Internet you saw the first systems 9495. In that range and it took until 2010 for high speed Internet. To get everywhere. And that's that's something that is a lot easier and a lot more I think. Trust worthy to people in the driver was cars there there are a lot of people that will never get the driver was car. Now all I don't know everybody says a lot of people that said they would never get a cell phone to. Popular set a lot of people still don't remember the whole push back and look it this. The same people were pushing back and getting not getting a cell phone number that all it's like 60% of seniors have cellphones the rest don't. In New York in the northeast people are gonna Guam on this state they will take my daughter would use this. Yet what they're doing is that they are allowing people to buy packages of rides at a flat fare so it's what sixty bucks and you get like twenty rides right. Something like that it's in that ballpark and so it's it's a plot fair price. And if you go above a certain limit then you start paying out of pockets of here's the thing is if you go in this that the rigel limited to what would normally be a twenty dollar rides of the gold ball that you start paying irregular out of pocket you know cost there but. This is a way. The thing that I your drive and a worker you walk into work or you're taken. Public transportation. Chris couple companies here that we're gonna talk about the first one is the paint giant Sherwin-Williams. Is a company that obviously. Is pretty much as big as it gets in the paint industry talked a little bit about what you see from them. Well you know it's actually the way they guarded and whether the players there there are there's better they'll understand. But they lag behind PPG industries in the really cool about is you know. They're on a little demand aspect but there's all the acquisition related benefit he added they digest the Al Barak. Really not really blue they're overall present the market or accurately outside the US. Here to war. What is it 85 plus percent. The US market so nice geographic expansion but. Inside that or US market you know we got significant consumer dollars villain or air remodel. And people are not moving at less. That result they're returning in best in all we heard that commentary Lowe Burnett commentary 080. And we'd like sure and Malia really delegate that it. Beckett. A year because the Heatley straw. Housing market strong spring but should you pick up. What we leader in the late eighty is summer you know everybody's got to eight dignity. Does the Valspar acquisition bring them anything new in terms of important products or is it mostly for that geographic diversification that they've made that acquisition. The great question whether there is a combination. You bracket expansion as well product expansion. Sure and going and really known for both righty coding. You know wiley architectural market and that the beat one of the larger market there's all sport. That Eric coding everything Indian from the arena and street industrial coating insurer out or really shores up their product portfolio. Are good now let's turn to look at the appliance maker whirlpool this is accompanied. That is you know pretty familiar to I think most of our listeners obviously a lot of the brands they own kitchen aid Maytag so forth you know down the line. Doctors about what they're doing now on why you are you bullish or bearish on this company I guess I should ask first. Yet more bullish on a pretty much the main reason being fundamental reason that we have. Herbal unsure what it switches to over the next not you know couple not familiar to the next two years the outlook for repair a bottle. Is our stronger than all of you out struck. But again. Mike wolf that it would really interesting though it dig into the data error. Probably the best. Remodeled job that won't be there all in the kitchen and it about eight re the senate. Our return on Alley far better at other projects you can you're out there when you start looking. The kitchen what are a lot of your quiet and well guess it makes. Whirlpool and you're correct they have great ride. For branding edit their intellect is surprised people up as a result they are number one. While it may fracture on the planet. So as people spend more they're big share again. Don't just reflecting back now our own people load it even ask why beta real push and why it failed. All of them over the last week so we're really talking strictly. And there have been a lot of international competition from our companies like LG and Samsung getting into the space is well how they've been doing in terms of being able to fend off those competitors. Well you know it and think you know we Tennessee. Walk all the best buy. Each other out there. That. The product portfolio as well as the big acquisition. Group their position. In Europe and in doubt America beat Brazil. Really hey wait or there. And saw. The price. Garrett Chris thanks for joining us thanks for all the info here today all right. Chris Versace from the street tickers on this two companies whirlpool as the ticker WHR. Sherwin-Williams with a ticker at CHWs those companies both benefit from me pick up in house. Oh they do it and as Chris was saying I think the big thing that you're going to be in the next couple years. Is a lot of people who look they may now be moving but there's still going to be spending money on their existing home lot of deferred maintenance new appliance is to deferred maintenance in terms of you know paint stains those types of things I think there's an awful lot. That is that is built up there in terms demand justice you know as we've talked about the lack of inventory on the housing market that meet people aren't moving. That's a brought need you to that conclusion yet you look at those companies. Say. You know one thing that bothered me about whirlpool would be Chinese competition. Or even put the the Korean companies mentioned Samsung and oh yeah they're both very very tough and got an inmate could have good equipment good Alex's. Ellen thank everybody for tuning in. The stock market has been in negative territory. All morning long. But most recently. Ventured into positive territory I'll tell you probably not a lot of action in the price of stocks today because to morrow. Tomorrow's a big day Janet Yellen. Head of the Federal Reserve will be making each speech and chuck and I will serve as your interpreter it's would try to explain to you which he said in that speak. But because of that I expect stock trading to be quite muted today struck the Dow was up thirteen points. Yeah I I just don't see a lot of action to. Not quite date this is the outcome before the storm we do have Janet Yellen speaking from my out in Jackson Hole tomorrow as you mentioned and then look next week. You've got a job from work and then all of a city got Labor Day and it's really after that when I think things are gonna kick an idea that you get. You get to what are we talking probably September 6 then once you've got you know a couple days digest. That's when the real deal starts. All right hey you need to be a little bit careful if you are buying things on Amazon. And subscribing. To. And you know we've talked about this in the past where you can say to Amazon well I want to copy delivered on the first of the month. Pound coffee every month yet for I want again it. In any number of household items why dishwasher detergent. Anything like that is in our back that can give you some examples. You know you one example is Folgers Coffee thirty Alps ten. Vanity Fair napkins. Let's see what else we have ideas are correct people how I do the other cut they'll clean care toilet paper. Death wish coffee. Germ guard your ear pure fate for pure fire replacement so you know where the air pure fire would be it is just due to remind you change the filter in your air pure fire. But the whip. Was discovered in the New York Times to their credit discovered this they've been tracking this on Amazon for quite some time. It would Amazon has a history of doing. Is they'll suck you win for Folgers Coffee at thirty ounces for six dollars and 65 cents at three paid in June yup and then in August they Jack the price up twelve dollars and fifty cents in almost doubled. You know what what Amazon does Amazon has dynamic pricing and so react to how many people looking at certain items how many people were buying it. If so did just prices even throughout the day now based on the number of people that are looking or buying some but I thought subscription would mean that you're subscribing at the same consistent price it's not the case not necessarily and that's the thing is that. I think a lot of people thought they were getting that same price shape of the get that and in fact he wore OK but dollar shape club it's the same price. It is. It is in and that's that's the thing when you do a subscription you typically think that it would be the same price what Amazon has done here and effectively how they have set this up though. Is that. When he goes to buy that next order in your subscription it buys that what the prevailing prices for ams and so it's. There are going on saying okay we subscribe he would is that we're just Jack are not so sure that. I am and how how do you know that because literally like that is. I'm a 100% sure they're not doing. I am one color me stature. Color me skeptical you you really we just came up from reporting the mylan epi pens story yeah corporations do this is what they do this is how they make money. It's not his her neurologist for one person like it's if you go and look you you can check it like because they're good at all products to every. Or right that's but that's I'm saying is they're not saying you subscribe now we're just gonna jacket up and topics. No that's not what they're doing it bites based on their dynamic pricing so. If you subscribe and I'm looking at my toilet paper and out 37 dollars for 36. Okay. If the price when it goes to refill that order something different and it gets refilled at that price. That's not to be you don't think. They're artificially manipulating that price. To make more profit. Every company artificially literary you know that's my point don't sign up for the here's my message right do you want it's your money. But don't subscribe. To things from him is why I do because they're gonna Jack the price I thought you might play 36 dollar price is not moved that's one item by I've got a list of items here that. People have paid. Darn near double type promote that if you senators subscription you get an X percentage off. Yep you save a certain up percentage on on the regular 10% of whatever they'll look you can literally go when you still save on the regular list price compared to. To what you would have had to buy it here here's I'm trying to say is if you didn't subscribe. And then you went tried to buy that thirty days later and it would be more expensive than if you hadn't subscribe. UB ninety of the go to local Wal-Mart buy it cheaper. You could that you could do that before like egg this. I don't don't subscribe now don't don't I do not subscribe to give an example Lysol disinfecting wipes now that's something that you would order on a recurring basis yup. He could have paid as little as 895 Ford or ties 1791. Well heck shop around at the big difference in the price what's an original order your original price was twelve dollars and all of a sudden you get if for eight when that's good that's good so I think. I don't think you can simply say don't subscribe I'm not gonna subscribe there's nothing you can do to get me to subscribe okay used to subscribe okay. If you're a bake a little bit of money on the side that got your attention wanna make a little bit of money on the side. You can tourney in eight tax cheat. Settled dodging doesn't. A lot of money usually have you know some muscle behind them don't. Well here's how you do it may get it and you know or most tax cheats get turned in from now where's employees. Really yes. Really sure thing. You're working for a big company. Or a small company. Right let's say your work and for restaurant and you know the restaurant. We'll think about your your working maybe you're working in as a bookkeeper at that restaurant that I mentioned right. And they've restaurant owner of screws you over in east yeah he fires you were treated badly. Well that's where they're getting their leagues that's that's really giving me the lead you know I saw a story as well and another one truck where. A guy was hanging around in divorce courts. Be really well sure think about. A few years. Yeah hi in divorce oh yeah and cheat them you know like just what they then everything comes out during a divorce Alia so we each get a lot of is the animosity to the one thing that I want you to know though. It is in the caveat is one. There's no guarantees immunity so if you're that bookkeeper for that business and you turn in the cheap that you were complicit. With the cheating of the iris. Iris can come after you potentially. And secondly. You can't do it anonymous. No the only way to do it anonymously as if you wanna get paid if if you want no reward if you simply wanna just reported and go away. You you can do that with no problem but if you do want to be paid they are going to identify you in the process. YouTube did just died just that about it throw that out there that is an interest in story. We need the money on the side. Haiti would Becky. Explains. Why she is passing up an estimated. Five million dollars a year in endorsements what a great young ladies mrs. he she's nineteen years old. Yes. To go to Stanford via the swim team. She has its it's something that I don't know if I'd be able to do myself. I don't know if I'd be able to walk away from I think she comes from a pretty affluent family yet dad's a lawyer mom had a pretty good job and you know she just wants the live. We are joined by Jeffrey her bows heat from deep water wind America's first offshore wind farm. And CEOs joining us on the show today hi Jeff are you. Are you that so congratulations. I understand that your just putting the finishing touches. On the first wind farm in America in it's off the coast of block island. That's right just a few days ago we finished. Installation of that if the turbines off actual war so now we're working on not testing the equipment before we powered up. Needle blades are all locked down right now correct date they're not operational. That's right they are locked in place we have. Several dozen service technicians offshore right now working on machines to. Get them ready to produce the first that electron who leads the machines. It's GE machine GE yeah OG. These are among the first offshore wind. Irvine that he is the point but as you know there. They're pretty big in the the global energy industry this is. This is complementary business to what they're due. Jeff I'm guessing that you already have blocked contracts in place to sell this power to local utilities. We do we have a contract in place with a utility in Rhode Island which. Is National Grid. What's what's the what are the terms that contract terms the cost to love ratepayers. Yahoo! we've got it's a little bit unusual situation because we're. Read off the coast this small island so a block island so we eat we export our energy burst the block island. And then there's a new transmission cable. That connects the island and mainland for the first time so. For a long time block down and then literally electric Ireland they get all their power from diesel generators. So we sell our power. Eventually to National Grid for 24 cents a kilowatt hour. In in the in from the spoke on block island get the energy from the wind farm which really offset much of the cost that they have right now. It gives them a more consistent form power. It. Does so you know much like. Nantucket and and Martha's Vineyard where years ago before they get their cables mean paper and people Jenner people power. On walk around and it literally put diesel fuel in berries. And and truck that got buried in the ship across. The the water in the burn that diesel on the island. And they have no life point the mainland but this project actually. Both provide them with clean energy and provides them with the transmission link to the mainland for the first time so much more reliable system and they have to back. They're trying to do this on the tee for twenty years and couldn't get anywhere how did you do that so quickly and are violent. While wasn't so quick. It was about eight year process to get where we are today we brought in 2008. Now we did get across the finish line and so that's the right the big difference you know they there what to project their proposed four war right off the cape which which has not been built. You know a lot of it comes down to location. The block at a location. There's a community there that was very receptive that that really supported this project inform. And you know when your in the product development business what you're building a shopping center or wind farm. You know the location that you choose is kind of that's critical factor whether it's real estate in the energy business it's all about location. And so this project the block out one form is located in a place for the community except that it. What's next we're you know billion next. Do we have another much bigger project this is a project by turbines our next project could be up to 200. And it would be located. Or out in the Atlantic Ocean in federal waters. Between Rhode Island and Massachusetts. But thirty miles offshore facilities that is that south among top. Yet so it is about eighteen mile the southwest of the vineyard and about thirty miles to the Belmont park though. Way out in the middle Atlantic and the plan there is to build. Probably couple hundred Irvine and keep connect that project Long Island in the west. And the southern New England to the north and well who gave you the financing for block island. It was a combination of equity porter's principally a company called to be short group which the private equity investment form based New York. And then a group of about six commercial banks from the US and your. What comedy that when you build 200. Windmill farm will that drive down your cost is 24 cents is expense. Compared yeah you're right. And a lot of a lot of that expense have to do with the scale of the project locker room approximately five apparent that the relatively small in offshore wind isn't. The very small projects so. There are a lot of these economies of scale war the key to our business is scale getting bigger so that we can read this fixed cost. Across. More and more hours of production. So you know will we saw the news off for the one down by Martha's Vineyard. Yeah I think I think you can see energy prices. There that are very competitive to what we in the energy market here right now because the energy cost in the routine and you know very competitive with the other sources of energy that are out there and now comes with scale again you have to lay blame nobody don't wanna count. California yeah. Yet here at the big the big difference on these specialist at the US. On the East Coast we have something called outer continental shelf. Which go without a couple hundred miles from our coastline. And is eight literally shell. Which means that the water here is 100 feet deep 200 feet deep. For ten and the miles off the East Coast on the West Coast. Go about a quarter mile for about a thousand feet of water hole. Which makes construction much much more difficult and expensive so we have the benefit here in the northeast of happening. Wind off toward that is among the best in the world it's incredible wind resource in the on the shelf which makes which makes when armed rebel. Mary Goodwin Jeffrey thanks and Jack congratulations on the block island project are but you got Jeffrey about ski deep water wind. Five Windmills off a block island and I know the residents out there I was out there and they're happy about it you know maybe there because it's giving them. In more it you know there's 12100 people who live on block island your. What do you think you have to remember that 24 us cents per kilowatt hour and time. Not for block island right because there walk around it's actually can end up saving the money just because they don't have utility scale production there. If they could do the same thing down in the Caribbean thing about what they're paying for electricity organic. Puerto Rico Virgin Islands I mean. The virgin island cost of electricity use anywhere from two to three times is up here isn't really that much very expensive. And you know that solar is big in the in the virgin that they have the same problem that is a mentioning. You dude these deep water all rocks it hit it up out there a little bit you have to do it on the island and there's a lot of resistance to putter ammonia yet. Murray when we come back we're talking about draft kings and fan do all along with trivia from our insurer Matt. Dot com studio. And that he surprised that the NFL allowed them to invest in the news it's gamble. Now. Though it be that they wouldn't be allowed like the Kraft family wouldn't be allowed as I understand they wouldn't be allowed to own casino. The NFL willfully turns a blind guy to gambling. As far as driving viewership and getting people more involved in watching games. Do either of you have any idea as to what percentage. Of draft kings revenue is derived from football like I when the football season ended. I I they're adding an open mind and an open my app since probably last December. And it's a large majority just strictly for. I would guess somewhere between 8090%. Really that. Ninety I think baseball's a lot more popular and basketball Tuesday and you think that I can yeah. I mean I find myself doing it once and awhile and I see plenty of people in the lobbies. You know filing in their cell. I would probably put it like 60% for football. Take it looks just plain to wait until the season was four weeks old before it started playing well that's you yet to do it early on because that's been the best Promos are. It's only like three dollar and refused to play for a million dollars in draft things because they want in September yet to welcome back football's world for almost like didn't wait no. There is a simple reason why the percentage of people owning a home it is is that a historic low. That sounds to me you know we've talked about this why homeownership rates are low. Like young people aren't buying it sounds like it's all related to education yeah it's. If people are being educated for longer which means you they've accumulated more debt or they simply are earning enough to get the the down payment or the monthly payments for house right away and so. It's it's you know we've talked about this an awful lot where whether it's because those student loans just because someone isn't earning money Walden school. They are not able to go out and buy a house at age 2526 like produced. They're Christians could they're just delayed. It's gonna happen but they're gonna wait longer than previous one because they're going back to get master's degrees or law school or med school there. You don't conceal law and is parent would drive me crazy. Easy to go to school they'll get an undergraduate degree and then the stated that dad while wanted to nursing school. I'd I'd be my niece and bring net. It's easy when you mean is apparently. That you quit when you're honoring her neck if you say that you know he's spent 200 grants and he did Tuesday Hewitt if the call for a beautiful girls get married lover but I'd bring her neck. Yet. You you have an awful lot and I've often thought that one of the things that a lot more kids should do is take you know wait a gap beer and go work somewhere for your radar archeologists that you can get some experience and find out if it's something actually wanna do. Great idea you know he's taking GAAP peer figured out before you waste your woman's money now pay let's about the bond market this I I saw this deal. On the bond market. You can buy a solar city bond for eighteen months that's paying like six and change six and a half percent. What is a good deal. In theory they're being yachts like Tesla the being bought by Tesla. But nobody wanted to buy these dollar bonds well except here's the thing you know who actually bought these down the Elon Musk you on mosque but that doesn't. I like there's got to be. I'm not a bond. Rates but the ball on guys must know something that you and I don't know I think that Elon Musk price that's this way to get himself a 6% rate of return in about why wouldn't somebody else by wood right like why wouldn't it if your Bill Gross right. Managing money. While we need to say. You probably have the right of first refusal on so him in one of his up partners bought and out. Out of this 124 million dollar bond offering him in one of his part about 80% of they bought a hundred million dollars. While the other side of that trade don't track who that I heard when nobody else wanted to buy some had a I mean look I I could imagine that you may have made an issue with demand but the other thing evolves in the finances look clear. All of us at the price and those bonds goes up you want to sell next year and make profit now. I used I thought that was very curious it's. I am becoming more skeptical about castle has looked at the Smart guys that their financial Wheeling and dealing some it's just it's behind the wheel lock now. You know I think that they're not doing anything illegal so it's not enough but it's just it's not a good look what they've done but well it's a lot of people are critic yeah them for it's it's it really isn't. Print is dead not in the mutual fund reports now. This kills me I and I may not know the essence of this but those of you who own. Mutual funds or variable annuities. Or anywhere you receive a prospectus. You get these big bully things fill up your mailbox right if you have ten mutual fund your mailbox is full of prospectuses like it bailed out twice a year. Turns out it's due to the state of Maine. This politicians in me. This was kind of mind blowing to me so obviously again everyone gets all those on united said mutual fund prospectuses. On average each year they kill two million trees in print 440. Million different reports. For these prospectus and those reports you know can have a couple hundred pages and each. The reason I'm blaming mean Tucker is all the paper mills are in Maine and literally. They were gonna get rid of these paper prospectuses that nobody reads. You know and and Susan Collins and Bruce Paul win rate for Maine they said no no we have to protect the paper industry in me. Yes these were asking the American forest and paper association as well as the world renowned envelope manufacturers association. Said no this is a rush to digitize you can't give people the option of getting these electronically they have to receive them via paper you can't even get the option. They wanted to give you the option to get them electronically so. It's again I think this is just. Crappy out and it's it it's like you can save a ton of money keep it. Again two million trees a year standing upright happy were happily rooted in the ground may be turning into Christmas trees instead and instead. Well this is all self serving. Oh it's completely self serve it's completely so like there's there's absolutely no reason for this to be done only via paper you should absolutely have an electronic options. All right for those of you who are covered by the Affordable Care Act also known as obamacare were getting just some leaks as it relates to rate increases. And Tennessee the rate increase of 62%. Let's see Mississippi it's 43%. And 23% in Kentucky so. We don't have New England rates yet but they're common and will you know what they arson as we get them.
