Dennis Slafer from MicroContinuum tells us all about the research his company is doing in regards to solar energy.

Thus far solar energy has been a box in terms of its cost efficiencies. In making election. Electricity we saw with our little company here in Massachusetts called green energy out in four sevenths. We're joined now by doctor Dennis slate for and he's the president of a company called micro continuum and Denis welcome to the show are you doing today. Right thank you thanks for coming on I I was reading an article in today's globe. About this new technology used developed. And it's vastly different then the the solar panels that have been getting sold and manufactured throughout the world and -- it most people who bought those Dennis have been disappointed in the next hour. Yes. You know that the out. Conventional. Photovoltaic technology -- talk about is really based ON Semiconductor technology. And it has some limitations in terms of efficiency. So we're looking at a different approach to. Energy harvesting. Don't. You know it's it's like nano technology and it's not. Big panels in -- but I could see it almost looks like tin foil. Elevate the idea is that down. You know -- antennas are energy. The idea here is that. If you make and has smaller and smaller -- -- different and it -- there are small enough you can actually get into absorb infrared energy and invisible entity. But that requires. Little elements of the intended to be very very small and scale so that's critical and tennis but the idea is that. Instead of that way. Conventional political tapes were. These -- will absorb the entity as in -- in and the energy has to be extracted. -- electronic circuitry to convert from the AM. Alternating current high frequency it it absorbs into DC -- music so that's working. And you develop this in Cambridge. Tell our listeners how much more efficient your technology is as opposed to photovoltaic is I was astounded when -- read this. Yeah well it it's a tricky question because -- You know one of the things that's held back audible text conventional ones as you know the efficiency Hamachi of these -- -- -- yeah. So this is different mechanism. That theoretically -- got to be careful here because people -- overstating efficiency and you know theoretically an antenna based system. -- Can. Absorb. Up to 90%. Roughly that's a theoretical numbers but of course you know by the time it converted to eight you know from -- easier -- it was a lot of efficiency. But we're open you know to be. Forty in the 40% means eventually. Very gather in the low teens -- Yet that he some systems are anywhere from 5% to the highest air around 15% right. So and the other advantage. We're looking at as the possibly make it to very low cost because work if you printed rules -- like plastic. Who did you just roll it out on enough on the roof that is at this -- Let it be flexible. So it can be and roll then connected. And there are other you know and some of the other conventional but -- are also flexible but. Most of them are rigid panels which required supporting structures on the groups and things like that so that's one of the things that really at the cost is just the in the back in installation costs. So it's gotta be cheaper than put the big panels up on the. REIT. And on a car you could yeah did you could cover the car with news gas powered vehicle. Yeah it's it's gonna it would be at a plastic substrate. You know like mylar and so it could be around in and around in it would be very lightweight so. Those it. Back in -- be acquitted and ages.
