Allow old yours son. You can play football. This is no question increasingly many parents are asking themselves. Including frankly my own wife grace. As well for his wife Nicole. Big story. Junior say our. Really a phenomenal linebacker. One of the fiercest best players. In the NFL for nearly two decades he played for awhile with a New England Patriots. Recently committed suicide and tried to committed suicide blast man. And his family suspected. That he had regenerative brain disease. From the accumulation of all the hits that he took to the head while playing football. And so his family his ex wife and his son. Demanded that an independent autopsy be done on juniors say house brain. Well the National Institutes of Health did an extensive study and they concluded. That yes. Did you say thousand brain. Who did suffer from -- a degenerative brain disease what they call CPE. And it comes from people think with exposure. It comes to people who with exposure to repetitive head injuries so if you keep getting whacked in the head. At very high power in very high intensity. It will eventually start cracking your brain a little parts of your brain and it will lead to long term serious. Brain. The generation. It leads to. Dementieva it leads to depression it leads to insomnia. It leads to forgetfulness. It leads to early alzheimer's. And so. Both Junior -- son Tyler and his ex wife Gina. Said you know after he retired from football with all that head trauma that he suffered. We noticed. Why old mood swings. He was offering you rational he would forget things to the point that he would go into his car. And he can have his car keys because you know where he put his car keys you know we left them. Or he's in the car and he doesn't know why he's going in the car. He had a hard time sleeping and he fell into a deep depression. They say it was very sad because sometimes he would just disappear in a conversation like you just stays out his mind we just phase out. Now juniors say out. This is was very scary. Never suffered from any concussions that we know he was never diagnosed with -- actually has suffered from concussions. So. This was just from the constant pounding. To the head. From tackle after tackle hit after hit after hit. And what is now changing in football. He's the size of the athletes the power of the athletes many of them on performance enhancing drugs. You're talking about men who -- 300 pounds solid muscle. Flinging at each other throwing themselves at each other -- incredible high speeds. It's almost the equivalent of every time you get hit some people have said some of these vicious it's it's the equivalent of a car crash. And so imagine being a car crash repeatedly. Week after week after week year after year after year. The effects of that would have on your brain. And on your long term mental health. And so many parents. Are now concerned. That they don't want their sons. To have cumulative brain damage by playing football. And I think frankly for the national football league for professional football this is a long term danger. Because what's gonna happen and columnist George will conservative columnist. Nationally syndicated media ritual for for the Washington Post my arrival our rival paper. In DC. He actually said he believes in about 20/20 five years football professional football will be dead. Because enough parents are gonna be saying you know what. I'm not going to be sending my son to play high school football or Peewee football or college football because the risks to their mental health. And long term safety is not worth it. And so they're gonna cut off the supply at the younger levels. And grace is one of them. We in fact had a discussion just a couple nights ago. With Ashton because he's a naturally very athletic. He's got fantastic hand eye coordination. He loves to play outside he loves to throw the football play soccer play baseball. He's naturally -- very very athletic kid. And so I immediately said honestly I said I think this guy is gonna play football must think -- fractional amounts and and the next Tom Brady year. But what I said there is you know would be great I played football as a young boy. It would be great if I rushed and began to play football. And I know I've watched games with them we throw the football around my -- to practice. Our guardian be a blast and right away my wife immediately said quote over my dead body. She goes Jeff I'm telling you. I don't want my son to get concussions. Or get hit my head repeatedly. And then he will get brain damage. Now he can play soccer you can play tennis he can play basketball he can play baseball he can play many other sports. Two give a release. To his athletic talent and his desire to play sports. But the one thing you'll Mon do she told me -- play football. -- -- Doral for grace if she wants a wrap around you signed an attack happened I didn't have to protect him from. Everything. So what she said to -- was literally quote over my dead body. Is Ashton playing football that you trucks that now and ironically. I as -- macho man nearest talking to me from the bulls are built curtsy. No coal his wife. Told him the exact same thing that their boy no law is not going to be playing football she doesn't want employing football team. Now -- for me. All of us what did you say grace before he gets it make you agreed with -- and I didn't Jeffrey the liberal and yet right. Grace you are -- wrapped up. No no no no no call. No no no no no. No I didn't I didn't exactly capitulate light -- deal. No. I just said there are -- look honey we'll talk about it. When he gets older we'll have a discussion all mean that's a typical guy get none all talk about I mean look -- I rerouted look honestly I'm not gonna go to war with my wife among them is that they're getting to a big argument with my wife. Over whether my son should play football which has run -- and a plant my flag the on background. So look I've known to listen honey it's Pee-Wee football as manned them football it's for the kids. Don't worry about his brains Montgomery had shattered the once we start talking high school or college football if he's really that good then we can talk about it wow solely in all but look how -- got so much gonna go to war with. My wife let me tell you this conversation goes in the -- household but it also does -- is not playing football too violent he could get her act. And I said he's playing football and feel like -- don't go to the games. VR does how does it three point stance. Gary knows how to charge and tackle is two years older kids Monica I'm talking out of box in order to us out of -- -- -- us understand. I'm not raising the -- I'm very sorry that's not gonna have. But the amazing thing is that call their mother. Think all but he'll play hockey because that's also safe and I don't know how does that ever. Very -- think his grace doesn't mind if he plays hockey I maybe it's the Canadian in her. But -- serve like you're cussing you like can we form together you know 34 will go on home put the bug ball hawk dealing with a little ball and you. You know street street hockey my semifinal play with little lashed at him will runner on that's no problem. And you'll learn to skate that's low price may fall bounty may crack is -- on the eyes -- don't worry about that. But suddenly football. Helmets colliding and guys hitting each other and my wife lays down the law. So I mean look I wanna revisit this in four or five years and Jeff cower in the corner tail between his I gotta tell you know I can opt. I don't think cooks he signed his playing football we know -- the -- how I mean I don't cook she says my son's playing football and she says you know what currency but it's not cannot. Don't get -- put his -- and and so he plays the macho man here. The Booth so we'll sit cart seat when our kids turn five or six which sign his playing football. So let me ask you this. Are you concerned. About your son playing football. 6172666868. As a parent knowing now about the growing dangers. To their brain developments. To their mental health from repeated its. Would you allow your son to play football. 6172666868. Bill thanks for holding welcome to the coroner report. The -- driven much more by high school coaches and athletic directors and you think how -- is called getting your bell wrong you. They now call a concussion. What they you know momentary blurred vision is now a concussion what they used to call -- -- shut down Brett. Ten minutes and collect yourself and then come back and -- and one guy -- take a week off people to the dock that's why it's so. Anybody who are not concerned about it I think it's got Edmonds I. Also -- saying they should be concerned right. Well I I think so high school coaches high school athletic director is probably I write about this and make. Some moved little -- but I concern is is warranted. Bill I gotta tell you I I remember right play Peewee football a little bit of high school football and I'll never forget this I was receiving a kick off in one game. And I caught the ball. And I am running to my left side. And all the blockers were there. But there was nowhere for me Iran's pressured all let me stop fate. And make -- turn to the right side of the field -- thought the field was wide open and I had like dreams of grander -- running it in for a touchdown. Well as I make my cut and I start turning back. This monster I mean you should've seen this kid man you wish you -- okay. At least then what six pounds six feet 19095. Pounds. He hit me square. On I mean he leveled me I don't know all right in fumbled the ball. And I swear I was like Tweety birds. I'm Mike. Huge I mean I'm just like I mean literally might Mike Bell was my ears were ringing I mean he rang my bell. That's why you by the way I wasn't for for -- Because like I walked out of verifies that I wanna do not again. No particular reason. I was -- go blue. And I just knew I said you know what I'm I'm for the school I'm I'm for the book I'm I'm not for the field. I'm not I'm a thinker not a fighter JoAnne Europe -- welcome to the coroner report. I get -- -- it played hockey since he was I'd go to bed injury in his ankle this year a group. The end I been delaying or allowing him to play but I'll just because -- that. They. -- a big gain is screaming your act together and -- eat it happens but it's not -- of the actual gain. You know JoAnne is very funny it's exactly what gray says to me. That's exactly her argument she says Jeff it's not normal. For a game where basically the game is about going helmet to helmet to had bad nonstop. Exactly. And and obviously things happen or not he allowed a -- -- contractions but album. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I mean you're actually that's what they built. So expect that puts more -- to me I don't like I want to play next here and I don't know what I'm going to do about it I mean you -- let them play. I am not sure I'm not sure I -- try to talk them out of it will -- a last minute. Did you didn't play. -- husband seal our oil he would he would like you to play pretty understand. You understand my point but he got he can't get preferred that he excel at hockey. -- don't you know I know it's I know what's wrong I mean maybe it's just Mimi is the the former Canadian in me. But I would prefer rationed to play hockey and to play football I don't know why. I'm -- I'm. We dug up -- -- -- Canadian. Maybe your they got it fair to -- our group but when -- that they didn't know what the -- into the brain. You know that sort of wait until. They -- it does honestly joy and it has some of these reports now are getting a bit -- they're frightening their worries some. And honestly JoAnne I'm exactly like your husband you know I'm what do manage you fight with my wife go to war with my wife so my son to play football. My wife feels that adamant about it. -- -- football coming in nominal try to talk her out of it if my son really wants to play but in the end. I'm not gonna risk my son's health and I'm certainly not gonna -- -- start world war three with my wife. Call me and we'll call me Louis Michel Europe next welcome to the coroner report. Hello Michelle welcome to the coroner report. Morning Michelle. A good example. The and I -- there you can't take MR IE you know our sport has become more dangerous I don't really apple. A young women who went to sports too personal and they'll vote. Up both soccer both damaged before they got to college -- left hip I mean seriously damaged. And Al one until the damage that both the art surgery but the jury report. It's crazy. That they competition level is just too intense for that developing your developing body. Until I didn't come as a regular that comment and hang up so. Thank you so much -- -- our nominee look I've noticed that -- ice I there was a gain near my hopes are high school game high school. You are huge. I couldn't believe the size of these athletes football players. There were flying they were running they were hitting. I mean I honestly thought this is policies this might call -- -- I couldn't believe how big these kids are. And there's a lot of steroid use I know because at the gym that I used to work out that there was a lot of high school students high school football players. And everywhere there was a sign everywhere the down every hallway. Don't use steroids long term health effects. It'll destroy your liver and his ran the whole list of of of health defects that you can get from this. But I mean I think that's another problem. Is that you know I was on steroids none of my teammates one who were growing in the 80s where I am I high school were on steroids. Now there's so much bigger and strong so much stronger and so much quicker. Yes you get a lot more concussions. Because of the size of the players and a lot of it is because of the steroids. And the stress now on winning and performance at all costs as big scholarships are at stake. Man am butterfly and the kind throwing. Welcome to the coroner report. High gas outlook -- I cringe every time you age you prefer hockey all star football because. The kid Travis Roy EO -- Travis. A few years back and -- right sandlot. And then and he would appeal still and it cracked his neck guard. A hockey. Night. And I hasn't been wouldn't let. Arafat near our hockey rink he gets played but while bicycle but fortunately he wasn't that good didn't play all that actually got through that but. I really worry about -- amount -- injury and. While the L most of them had the check gang green that worries me to. I'm just being very confessional I don't know why I'm just giving you a gut reaction. When I see hawk here when I think of Ashton playing hockey. It doesn't. Worry me as much as football. And the only logical reason I can give you is it's what JoAnne said earlier. Because hockey either purpose of the game is not to go head to head helmet to helmet as it is in football so I'm just thinking while his brain. Is not going to be damaged or most likely will not be damaged as much as if you played football. That's the only thing I can think. I'll so I just think hockey's a great game. I just I'm not the football lot of great game but I love hockey I just on the big hockey fan. And by to a big Bruins fan I think they can win the Stanley Cup this year that's a quick aside John they never got twenty game season while forty that's their benefits us because we're an older team. -- sure I'm -- -- that's why we have to go through the grind I like the Bruins this year. That's that's just my opinion John Europe next welcome to the coroner report. More arrests earlier occupiers is doing noted. That I had before we guilt -- -- that was in -- -- this country is. Many years ago miles -- but not -- although that a celebrity golf balls back Orwell's. Yourself. Patriots they're all -- -- where there. And apple will -- some -- all hang out and I made an observation of football players work -- we cripple. They have to help stop all -- stuff. The baseball guys other -- PLO overweight little -- pieces insisted that this is much look very won't go well. Both are gonna eat Nelson and and croak. And you if they -- -- -- they'll call. And I asked them why that was built and they called me it was because they started playing football before the -- well. And people at a very serious work with people it's about suffer -- -- -- also well that's. That is that's what a lot and they told who bought or are -- -- foot -- or not. Staying. Interest in -- John you know I notice that as I get older now look I wasn't a big player -- thing I was some superstar. But I played football starting at the age of six or seven. And I played until I was about fifteen. And I've noticed not a lot of hits in the -- And I'm noticing now it's -- down 43 now. I'm noticing from -- the last four -- five years. I'm like where my getting all this chronic knee pain. And you know what it may be because of the hits I took 10091011. Year old I mean it's very possible I never thought of that but that's a very interest and. We know my brother played football from the time he's tried like six years old improbable water and he still plays this. PA's and like some adults. Football league that they play mind I mean -- physically holding up -- -- always injured there was a problem with his -- I was in the hospital. Norway -- you stop playing and -- is that we want to cripple the sofa unlike TO he's a man and he allows for follow up a play no knees feel like -- torn ACL I don't know what's what's really Smart their -- -- hey I'm just -- he's gonna walk around with McCain for the rest of his life but he's a real man -- clean and I don't know like -- the liberal. Non non non how great we've -- played football. We want to look all I'm. You see the kind of abuse I have to take this -- I mean you most executive producers they back their hosts except for me. I get no respect even for my own executive producer. Mike sorry Steve you're up next though. -- -- yes western part of what I sports so don't get slapped kicked -- -- -- military -- -- Mott children's. So I don't wanna play anything or do any spinach will not amend the -- Don't just keep him in the corner not how cautious -- and -- the nature of being an American tried to choose to be number one nobody emotionally. I think -- -- wannabes numbered so. In no small that is. Both Steve I agree with you I mean obviously I agree with you but we're talking about a game that could lead to severe brain injuries. What. Are you really didn't change the rules they avoid helmet to helmet hits. Well there are certain protection to do make but you articulation of I don't want -- you're not you know -- No I don't know that's ridiculous or euros laws so now the laws with the helmets no I think that's ridiculous but. I mean you know it's just all of this evidence of chronic brain injuries that is coming from football. I think what's gonna happen is this. You're gonna see them institute rules where he can no longer have helmet to helmet hits. -- that's the next -- trust me it's about 510 years away but they're gonna have to do that. Because the guys are just too big. At the college professional level Lehman a high school they're just too big dirt too big and the potential for serious brain injuries just real. Button on every everything else see and I completely agree with you for example how much train out on a bike yeah I'm gonna Wear a helmet I had to Wear helmets. I didn't I never heard telling me grace won't let him play football but you thinking of doing the bike without a helmet. No one wants to begin that -- Jeff why is assumed I'd put a helmet on now. Why would you put hominem. This is common sense that's like saying you know hill right in the front seat without a seatbelt. -- -- -- serious now why don't you put a helmet on your kid what's wrong with you. Why -- -- I mean I'm tough I mean I drove by without a helmet what's the problem. It's safe to -- great. The -- you want your kid to play football. Where he can get his brain smashed in playing week after week but on his little tricycle. I'm holding him. Guys were going up and down my little drive way. The what I got -- -- put a helmet on -- now what I put shoulder parents still must seriously just dress them up completely -- grace would let you can't pump. Might -- -- aircraft medics who welcome to the corner report. The more I get I think I got a total pollution has that whole area. Remember -- at Apollo in the fat suit thing that he used to do us. Amid between two guys on the field. Just a note in the AL. -- bouncing around and people hurry to people who support we really get an NFL -- -- dressed up but those that actually do have a delegate the first. And it'll be great. Pat pat -- -- after. Thanks without call Mike. Gary Europe next goal. Yes good morning Jeff you know indeed the public how -- hit -- a lot of the NFL. Really -- helmet helmet director on the ballot -- you actually had gotten about Lyman on -- it. Dale I'm an ally I think there is gonna have does that. They're gonna have to change the rules of the game Gary I think there's no getting around it. Well that you did that site ironic because now my son who played -- wanna -- one year. Actually was nonaligned hat to what an appreciative of that because the -- -- one of the smallest guy in the way it on the line took up. Can we moments -- might get them to get there were on the other side of the line they were trying to get the quarterbacks so. He ended up with a concussion first came into the season and that was his football career. But I do have an alternative to -- sure you're. It's like football this -- is I know cookies and they just masculine. This -- -- for kids that don't wanna take their obligation -- -- that don't wanna have they can take a hominid or put these glorified guys like myself. Forty on up can still played football. Without getting their helmet to helmet hit them. Have I listened -- Gary if I could play flag football reward my brother plays like football so. I like football league and they full contact please. 99 you don't because it just for your time it's for worsens but at a time for the -- -- coaches in the cage fighting. Could see that I don't like the US and I'll cook see is that he's an -- guy. -- you'll only -- into the cage. With some of the toughest most hardened fighters in the world if it benefits not Value Line interest and because he's that kind of a guy he's he's a man's man. I'm sitting right across from Boston's Rambo I don't even know 6172666868. We'll be right back after his break. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- On that make you play football. Baseball was that not an aluminum bat. In the last he has the face Matt's got his helmet. I put a little rubber stamps and other corners of the dining room table. We have bubble wrap up everything from nice that it can -- and -- we could -- -- liberal. Man. Machine that role learn. Any any mix yeah. Good morning Jeff and I don't know who won two of the New Yorkers know a couple of guys on the New York Jets. Not not not not a personal friends but one of the matter -- he was a running back I used to work out he was working out there. I think -- what you intend to do. He says well and play with the jets for a few years and I'm gonna go and used my education Hewitt and history major he was gonna teach high school history. And another guy I knew when I was working on my masters -- sat back and make and he was defensive end. Are these -- gonna play first several years and then he's gonna you know uses education. Now I'm not saying that all. All off football player is can go out and teach high school or wore -- ministers but the thing is. They never intended to play for ever. And how many that the Junior Seau played. Years I mean these guys that I know. You wanna get batted around -- one a year and they intended to do something else maybe there should be an age limit for different positions. Back then during the yet joining the jets. -- -- -- I know a lot of people -- -- for gaming Vinny. I can tell -- right now I've not a lot of people who played football at the college and even -- at the professional level. It does it it has a lot of damage to your brain there's no doubt about it. It's a very brutal sport. Now if you want to play god bless you -- doing is that an exceptional skill level. I'm just telling you in all honesty. I am concerned about these growing it's I am concerned about this growing evidence of brain damage. And I do think the NFL and -- as if they're gonna change the rules they're gonna have to change the rules. Because it's a very different game you have 300 pound monsters. Running around at like incredible speeds colliding into one another. The human body is not built to take that kind of contact over that long period of time they're just not. Now my charm and Bill -- six. It's -- -- -- and only play and yet true and and make -- played football. Big swallow was that not an aluminum dad. It's like hey no paid minutes ten minutes my son's gonna play football. Montreal -- the last time you played football was ten years. So nobody there. -- I'm I'm just saying that it's it's it's the game has changed since my charm and real gutsy play football -- point two years ago when he was ten years old. That's all I'm saying. Know you're up next welcome to the coroner report. -- -- Know some think he's if -- isn't -- the only he's eating his breakfast or something John you're up next welcome to the -- report. Hey -- why I'm. Here -- I've got to three boys -- you have some information has given me. About fifteen years ago from some guys that had been in football years and -- said whatever you do don't let -- play -- -- high school and because all the gonna do what Florida does get injured. And when their freshman in high school with they're athletic ability is there at all. The coaches to be excited because the fact that they will not happen I'll learn anything that they've already learned that you're bigger sort of the beginning -- -- -- play division one side. I'm and that that we wanted to out of it because I had heard that Tom Brady and played football league type school. And you know -- -- -- I think -- better this particular a lot of what baseball Odom played some other sports center while the other one of the biggest wondered. They had injuries they'll -- and -- no -- ever talks about is you -- you're in Europe in the professional soccer league. But lifespan amateur I talk a player right now is debt is twenty years shortly. All the professional soccer players because they had injuries they're taking.
