Trump wins but did he help himself? 10-20-16
Today President Barack Obama announced sweeping proposals for curbing gun violence such as universal background checks and bans on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. He is making these changes via executive orders instead of trying to pass laws through Congress. Howie pondered the question is the President usurping power from the legislature.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino is vowing to block Chick-fil-A from bringing its Southern-fried fast-food empire to Boston — possibly to a popular tourist spot just steps from the Freedom Trail — after the family-owned firm’s president suggested gay marriage is “inviting God’s judgment on our nation.” “Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion,” Menino told the Herald yesterday. “That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.” Avi talks about this, as well as continuing the conversation about the shooting in Colorado, and bringing in the topic of Obama's recent remarks involving building a business.

Notorious mob rat James “Whitey” Bulger yet again has shocked some cops and old cronies, but failed to impress others who know him, when he opened up to G-men on the flight back to Boston, claiming he skulked back here armed and in disguise over “unfinished business,” according to court papers. “He waived his Miranda rights?” asked former state police detective Lt. Robert Long, who investigated Bulger in the late 1970s and ’80s. Federal prosecutors stated in a court filing yesterday that during his flight to Boston early Friday morning, Bulger claimed he came back to Boston several times while on the lam, in disguise and “armed to the teeth” to “take care of some unfinished business.” He didn’t say what the business was, authorities said. Can you believe that Whitey Bulger came back to Boston while on the lam?
